Great Video Rod those snags remind me of that stretch along the Thames by the NSTC. Lots of Anglers used to loose tackle all away along up to the fort. As kids we were always down at low water retrieving the weights and rigs. Sometimes the odd fish still attached. Happy fishing buddy Tight Lines mate

An excellent video and a fascinating insight into what, clearly, is a difficult and oftentimes frustrating venue. Obviously I can't speak for anyone else but had I been fishing there the swear box would have been full to overflowing...can't abide losing tackle / rigs! Only fishing one rod was a good decision in those circumstances. Cheers and looking forward to the next episode. Ken

Thanks again Ken - I fish a few venues where you lose tackle - its sort of OK if you are expecting it! Working out how to minimise losses can be as challenging as catching the fish that inhabit those places! Lucky to not have a swear box; perhaps I need to get one - I'll be back to fishing the Bristol Channel fairly soon!

Another great video, This area is close enough for me to fish but I can see the benefit of using a reel with a large retrieval rate of line per turn of the handle, some of the carpers big pit spodding reels would be a good fit here.

Nice watch as always Rod, if it’s snaggy I’d stick to single hooks and pyramid leads it depends on tide pull, tight lines
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 4 жыл бұрын
Good call Les, but I've lost pyramid leads there as well! The one hook idea is a very sensible one; however on both these sessions I was only there for 3 hrs or so and wanted plenty of baits in the water to avoid the dreaded blank! I think its better to be seen losing gear and catching, than not losing anything and blanking, or with one or two tiddlers for your efforts. I could have edited out losing rigs, but I wouldn't do that - I want the videos to be a true reflection of what happened. Thanks for watching again and your suggestion.

Hi, used to fish this beach offen, found small spinning rod and flounder spoon when on the beach around 2 hrs before high tides around this time of the year, to find the flounders.

I think too many videos are spoiled by swearing - I bite my tongue and shake my head when filming; although a professional lip reader may correct me on that! Yes - sometimes you just have to go with the pain of losing some gear. Personally, I think being constantly bitten off by spider crabs, when fishing for plaice, is worse. There are good fish to be had here - hopefully I'll have one or two for a future video. Thanks for watching and commenting again gazellis1961.

During the summer I cycled round there (sadly), very clear very calm day. Just out at end of wall by beach only 10m there was about 50-60 large fish assume mullet. On certain tides you will see point when the tides coming in when it actually ebbs a bit before carrying on. This is where it sort of eddies at this point, the fish know food will collect. A float is worth a try, casting away and letting float drift over. Bonus is no lost tackle.
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this useful information @Peddler of sighs. Yes, float fishing is definately worth a go here and I will cover that in a future video. It's those eddies at the turn of the tide that cause your line to catch on the snags on that steep slope. Plenty of good fish to go after here though. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@rodsangleuk6283 had a great day at hurst late August, never a spring tide ( to strong) usually fish top and ebb. At end past castle do the rise. Pennington sea wall always good fun mostly small bass, flounder and bream in summer. Some big bass in there, 19/6 had a pb 59cm bass was 60 in May so should have stretched it! On a tubertini 110g beach ledger rod 4.2m. There is an app called “what 3 words” breaks the world into 3metre bits. We go to corn.committed.earl Parking at lower Woodside road. Hope that helps

Looking at the footage when you bringing up the rig after pulling it through the snags I saw that the wires haven't sprung, for me, it looks like the wires are combing through the weed causing the problems. A solution would be to widen the wire a little for it to spring easier. I am surprised on your first session losing four rigs, not to changed to a rough bottom lead setup, so you only lose the lead, not the whole rig including the leader. The leader connection is your weakest point, I think you need to put some thought into it for losing less gear unless you are not bothered. I do like your videos and watch them all the time as you have a lot of info to offer.
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 4 жыл бұрын
Something to think about there @Scotland Mushroom Foraging and Fishing. There are plenty of venues where I fish with rotten bottom setups - this one's a bit different! Rigs with plain leads get caught up as well - its the line sagging ( and not being able to tighten up to the lead) at the turn of the tide, when currents are all over the place that's the main problem - its worse with mono! Plenty of things to try out here - so there will be more videos on this venue. All suggestions are gratefully received, so thanks for watching and commenting.

@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin. I do use them, but haven't tried them at Maggie Lane. Sometimes they are just another piece of kit to lose - it depends on where the snags are - its your mainline getting caught up fairly close in that's the problem here - so unlikely to be much use - but I will have a go with them here sometime. Good suggestion and thanks for watching.

Great video as always rod, I don't want to state the obvious but would it help to use plastic lift leads?? I used them in the late 1980s, I made mine out of tupperware lids!!!! May get you out of the weeds quicker, only a thought mate. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk. 🐟🐟
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 4 жыл бұрын
Great idea Mike, but I find that its the line getting caught up (closer in) when the water slackens up that's the issue, rather than casting to rough ground - I use lead lifts in that situation; here I think it would just be something else to lose!
