PSA for everyone: If you plan on going to Freeport to catch Jacks this season, be a respectful fisherman and mind where you cast. It can get nut to butt on that Jetty especially during Jack season, and being careful not to cast over someone’s line can get you a long way. 👍🏼

Do you put your own shadder glass tape on those? I really like your video the way work the spoon was helpful. I fish for stripers in the aqueduct, and want to fish spoons,I think they could be affective. Right now I just throw jigs,and swim baits, but I think spoons could work. Not if you cast it far enough. Cast put about 50 yards and work the bottom, once you see that your line is parallel to the jetty rocks, set the hook and reel as fast as you can.

Pro Tip: Maybe try the swivel before the split ring in front of the spoon. Cheers! 🤠
@captainquicksilver30649 ай бұрын
correct, otherwise the line twist can cause many problems
@HATINTHEKAT9 ай бұрын
Idk what his reasons are but for salmon jigging, the swivel at the hook end is to help prevent the salmon from “unbuttoning” the hook when they are twisting and jumping around, the swivel acts as a bearing and spins so the fish can’t get the lure to use its own weight and shape to leverage the hook out. Which is really important since we’re stuck with single point barbless hooks up here. Makes a big difference.
@BeachBomberFishing9 ай бұрын
That's why I put a swivel by the hook and not on the front of the spoon. Glad to hear that works well.
@HATINTHEKAT9 ай бұрын
@@BeachBomberFishing instead of split rings I use 80lb braid to make “braided line split rings” they help even more with resisting twist and leverage, and are a little lower profile in my opinion versus heavy duty split rings, and very cheap since one spool of braid will last indefinitely, and no rust on them either, and they’re extremely strong, you’ll bend out or snap just about any hook before the braid gives, or literally tear the hook out of a fish’s mouth lol

There's nothing like fishing when you have the water boiling up from below & a lot of times the birds will drop in from above at the same time. You'll see some of these charter boats who see the action; fish running bait UP & the birds pushing back DOWN ! It's exciting & then ya sling a lure to pull it back thru that tornado of activity. FUN on Steroids!

You Americans ?! All this hardware just to catch a GT. Down Under we call them Giant Trevally or GTs. GTs are a side catch when fishing for other things. We let them go because they aren't so good to eat compared to other fish and we love them because they fight so hard and never give up. We tie our leaders to the split ring on the spoon and get rid of the trebles which are crap to use. They are replaced by two back to back 5/0 single hooks. Better hook up, harder for the fish to throw off and easier to get out of the mouths of fish that are still thrashing about after landing. If you guys want to learn how to fish properly just pay us a visit Down Under we will look after you.
