Yes! Brutal! I have been injured a few good times out there. One time on the Winchester Bay jetty I fell and sprained my ankle and busted 1 rod. I still continued out to the end and caught a huge lingcod. These cool kids knew I was injured and netted it for me. You def gotta be safe out there and take your time.

What line/leader size are you using?
@righteousriverfishinginoregon74 ай бұрын
I run a average and heavy setup. Average I run 40lb braid to the jig and sometimes run a 20lb leader. The heavy setup I run either 50-60 lb mono or 80 lb braid because if you target big ling and hook one you need line that won't cut easily on the sharp rocks. Fish on!
@2HighNoon4 ай бұрын
@@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 wow I'm gonna need to get some braid then. 😅 I've got 15# mono on my real right now. 💯 New to saltwater fishing. I literally bought a 7' surf rod and reel recently when I moved to the coast knowing little to nothing about what I'm doing. 😅 I think the real is a 4000 or 5000. Gotta try and make due with what I've got for now. But the line is definitely an immediate upgrade or I'll lose any fish I hook into apparently. I've caught a surf perch and a baby flounder though. So not skunked, just no clue apparently. 😅 More KZbin! I'm learning. Thanks for the response.👍✌️

Walmart special 😅 I'm a poor man and trying. ✌️
@righteousriverfishinginoregon74 ай бұрын
@@2HighNoon sweet. That rod is very short for the jetty, it's likely better for a boat, but you can make it work. Just upgrade the line. You don't need expensive line. If your using 1 oz jigs then get cheap 30lb mono and go get em. That will work for perch too. Fish on!

Nice catch, would like to know how you fish those. On the bottom? Slow pulls/quick jerks or just cast and retrieve?
@righteousriverfishinginoregon77 ай бұрын
Cast far. Let it drop to bottom. Keep slight tension. Then jig back with moderate jerks. Let it tap bottom, jerk, repeat. Once it gets close to shore reel it in so you don't get snagged. You will catch fish. It's completely on feel. I can do it with my eyes closed. Just feel the jig, the taps, the action, and then the fish.
