On the Sunday of Easter, many folks participate in Easter Egg hunts. Well, my Easter Sunday wasn't spent looking for eggs, it was spent looking for bees in the traps I had set. It was an all day event, other than spending a few hours eating dinner with my family, and I drove over 80 miles just counting swarm catches. I had my 93 year old mom riding in the car with me enjoying the Spring weather and looking at all the blooming trees and plants.
Because we had sustained over 30% dead outs from the winter, I decided to use these boxes as the traps since there was really good brood comb in the boxes, and in my opinion, this is the best possible bait you can use to in a trap. Of course, I did place lemon grass oil on a Q-tip in the box also, but between the two items, I was guaranteed to catch a swarm or two. Well, we did catch a few more than 2.
So, follow along as I drive the backroads and highways around the Northshore of Lake Pontchatrain as I check swarm traps and give you the update on them. God's peace to all.
Mr. Ed
