Catching Wild Bettas in THAILAND for breeding conservation! Betta smaragdina natural habitat!

Some of you who follow my instagram probably know i've been working on this video for the past week so here it is, i hope it was somewhat educational and open up your views some more on their natural habitat.

Some may not fully understand about how conservation efforts work so i'll try my best explain how this all works for me before judging please know the work ive been putting into conservation that some of you may know me from my instagram @Franksbettas or an article about me on Biotopeone.com about wild bettas, that this habitat has been looked after by me for some years, i breed what i catch and re release the spawns back into these habitat to help boost their numbers and also relocate fish to new habitable locations. Some may wonder why we have to interfere with nature? but They're already fighting a losing battle so the reality is that without a helping hand to boost their numbers by breeding and re-releasing these fish wont last long for an example this habitat wont be here in the next 5 years guaranteed, so I breed release some back and move some of the fry i bred to a potentially new habitable location that they can thrive in.
If we let them be they'll breed one season a year sometime not even getting that chance to breed as fertiliser will disrupt this yearly when rice or potato are grown as farmers need these chemicals to help their crops so if we captive breed them they can breed every month. Catching 10 and breeding a few thousand fish to release and relocate does more good than do harm.
These are wild type bettas and so far from the domestic type bettas that you see in your pet stores or walmart as they're in their original wild type form, the domestics you see in your walmart in mass quantity have been selective bred for decades to look the way they look with different colours and fins but these wild bettas have been somewhat forgotten about and their population is in danger due to land destruction. So in the past three years I've been showing people on social media of the small conservation project that i do by myself for my regions species.
There are 5-6 different species in the splenden complex which is what makes up domestic bettas of today in which I'll make a video about in the next week or two when i get the chance.
I now only sell already established captive bred bloodlines that I've worked on for years on my instagram franksbettas which still retains their wild forms so they're still very genetically wild like. I aim only for the highest grade fish that meets the criteria of the Thai fisheries because wild betta is very big here in thailand but not so known worldwide but slowly picking up more hobbyist in the past 3 years

Night NDay, if you live close to the nature then these things ain't any issues. As you walk bare feet your feet will develop a layer if blister as thick as a sole of a shoe, you can literally smash any thorn with you bare feet. More over, any parasites entering your body will get killed instantly by your immune system. You can even have a bath in these water without feeling any itchy.

@@Yogirliej4dee the most important thing is clean water for a betta. These waters are so rich in plants which means the water quality is very good. Mud is not dirty it is what helps the plants grow.

I'm raising my domestic betta in darkwater and he's loving it. I put in some driftwood which is releasing an explosion of tannins. Also threw in some java fern, java moss, moss balls, eel grass and frogbit! It's a 6 gallon. I tried starting him in a 2.5 and he was NOT having it. That said, if anyone is reading this and wondering what size to start with -- go 5 gallons minimum!

I never wanted a fish. So many died when i was a child. And then i went walmart and i saw her. The rest were big and i felt there was nothing i could do for them. But she was so tiny and she looked so sick and i thought if shes gone die young at least ley her have a good home not just a small plastic container. So i bought her for two dollars and spent 10 on a gallon tank. Remeber she is still a lil baby i do plan to upgrade in a month. It has been three months and my baby is still alive she has grown and her coloring and marks have grown darker. Shes not a special beta she is plain and simple but im glad i bought her and i hope to make the rest of her life as peacful as i can.

That is very sweet of you to take her. I really care about the fish in my aquarium and am trying to take the best care I can of them. I hope your little fish lives a long time. You could add several Cory cats to live with her and keep the tank cleaner if you want. Bettas can live with other species peacefully, most often, if they aren’t crowded and there are places for fish to hide when they want. This is almost a year later, and I hope your fishie is doing well.

@@DivinityinLove Betta fish can breathe on land for 5 minutes without dying. they has a special organ that helps in breathing. Can be raised in an aquarium without using an oxygen pump to help blow air into the aquarium.

In thailand may be 40years ago all thaiboys did these . We went in group . Talk about snake there were a few and most mild or non venomous ,we call fish snake and event cobra they scare of us human just make some noise before get in. Your video remind me how I used to be close to nature. Thanks .

Omg when I used to live in Myanmar, I could literally catch them from my window 😂 I would just watch them for hours and hours though. I never even realized they were bettas until now! They were so pretty and fun to watch. Also, I would feed the catfish under my house everyday. I had a VERY interesting childhood. I miss my home country very much. Edit: in Myanmar, we called them peacock fish.

This is a Great Video Frank. I am a Tropical fish keeper and I used to work in a tropical fish store in Massachusetts United States. All of the Betas we used to sell were shipped to us in a tablespoon of water or less. This is an amazing species. I never realized that this would be their type of habitat? Thanks for posting! I've kept fish all of my life (mostly native American centrarchids)....but lately I've become very interested in wild Betta species. In my opinion, they are MUCH more beautiful than the selectively bred varieties.... I really enjoyed watching this. Interestingly.......I catch pygmy sunfish in the genus Elassoma in exactly the same way......and the habitats look very similar.

Wild Betta are super peaceful compared to the one breed, they would only be aggressive while breeding or territorial dispute and again nature has plenty of place unlike our fish tank.

They won’t be as aggressive because they have a whole pond to live in, so if they run into one another. One can just go to another part of the pond, while in a 5-50 gallon tank they only have so much room to go. So they can’t get away from each other

I'm Thai and I've never liked modern fighting fish. because they look rough, do not reflect light. But raising wild betta fish is full of difficulties. 1. They never liked the shelter we were looking for. They will try to escape all the time. Their jump was definitely higher than the mouth of the bottle. 2. They never liked the prepared food we gave them to eat. Therefore, it was necessary to find worms or small insects for him to eat. If they could eat these little insects they would be happy and cheerful. Their colors will be more pronounced and shine the most. Don't panic if you're raising bland, colorful wild bettas that don't shine. (except betta fish that come from breeding farms)

DwightK Shrute English is the largest language spoken in the world. You would be either arrogant or misfortunate to not learn it. I’m from the Netherlands and we speak DUTCH but we learn English as we know outside of the Netherlands the international language is English and it’s so important If you (or I) didn’t know English we wouldn’t be able to watch 90% of the videos on KZbin! English is very important in my opinion...
