Cate deserved this (she's the most elegant amazing actress ever, she glows immaculately.) but that moment when every supporting actor won an Oscar (including Amy Adams who was an extra in Catch me if you can) and Leo has yet to win one. Justice.

MrLasveguinhas - No, I was stunned, but I realized that people win sometimes simply because of popularity. Gwyneth had been in a string of popular and acclaimed films and had basically become America's sweetheart at that point. Plus, admittedly "Shakespeare In Love" was a decent film, I thought--not Best Picture good, but a quality film. And I think that Cate really wasn't as well-known in those days, so she didn't get it. I still believe that she was robbed, but it is what it is.

Blanchett doesn't come from old money though (I'm pretty sure about this -- I watched a Biography on her). Rather, I've always speculated that part of why Blanchett is so "put together," is possibly the result of the influence her husband has had on her in their time together. I just have always had the feeling that he's greatly played an important role in shaping who and what she's become (I could be off on this, though). They've been together for YEARS, I know.

But I didn't compare the roles in my comment, I compared the career of thes 2 women (Blanchett and Streep) , one great role after the other, admiration from the craft, from the audiences, from the critics, Oscar after Oscar etc. And of course the most important thing they share: massive talent.

+A.S Alfred Cate Blanchett is not the actress that Meryl Streep is, and I doubt that she ever will be. I don't think that we'll ever see another Meryl Streep in our lifetime, to be honest. Cate Blanchett IS a gifted actress, though, and absolutely electrifying (you can't take your eyes off of her); She is unquestionably someone special. But, just because an actor wins a lot of acting awards---even if they're Oscars---it doesn't mean that they're the best actor. Katharine Hepburn won more Oscars than anybody ever has (for right now, at least), but she definitely was not the greatest actor who ever lived---but, great, though.

This should have been her second Best Actress Oscar win. When she was nominated for "Elizabeth", I was all about Gwyneth Paltrow at the time. Deserved. I just saw Blue Jasmine, and Blanchett just blows it out of the water. She just takes the character Allen wrote and made it her own and she just achieves character so well and so devoutly, it puts other actresses to shame. Meryl, Sandra, Amy, and Judi can learn from her devotion to her craft of acting. Just amazing. Thank you Cate Blanchett for being an actress among celebrities- for being a craftsperson among clout-moochers, and for just being one of the definitive actresses of this current generation. You deserved this. Here's to a wonderful future in whatever you do!
