depending on how they've been responding to the widow, she could honestly say she did get her period but didn't want to talk about it with people outside her bubble, so she just kept being like "yeah.". I had a similar situation with my mother. I got married a couple of weeks ago. While taking photos, my mom made me cry by saying she was proud of me (not something I've distinctly heard from her or my father). I could tell she was really feeling genuiningly proud of me and the life I've made for myself so not just for getting married. Over this past weekend, my husband and I visited my parents at their new "vacation" house to celebrate the start of our marriage and to be their first visitors since they finished decorating. She proudly told her neighbors that I was their daughter visiting them. One night we were watching a tv show, my parents watch that I used to watch with my mom, and I laid my head on a pillow in between my mom and I. She stroked my head for a second and it made me feel happy that despite us now having an adult relationship in which I haven't lived at home for a couple of years, we can still have a close relationship where she still views me as her child.

about the pregancy story honestly, best lie is to wait it out, when the landlord's widow asks in person or want to see in person she's probably past grieving.
