Now you are fully aware of Martin Turner's pivotal role in creating Wishbone Ash's 'sound.' Like Chris Squire, Martin's "lead bass" performance in the last half of this song perfectly complimented all of the harmonizing you hear, with both the guitars & the ear candy vocals. Because you loved Sometime World, I know you're going to love two of their best songs ever, *Handy* & *Phoenix,* which comprised the entire second side of their debut album. Handy is probably the best overall presentation of Martin's bass playing talent in their catalog, although Sometime World is mighty impressive. Phoenix is just wonderful, an epic that starts out slow like Sometime World but concludes with the same kind of fire you heard in Sometime World...

In 100 years time this will be the classical music people are listening to. I was lucky enough to buy the Argus album in 1972.

I got to see Wishbone Ash in 1972, the year Argus, the album came out. They were spectacular. It was at the Josephine County Fair, hot summer day, small venue. I was 17. We had smuggled in some Boones Farm Strawberry Hill wine 🍷, the cheap stuff. It was my first rock concert and I was with my high school sweetie. This brings back some of my happiest memories of my life. My high school sweetie and I were married and we have 2 grown children and grandchildren now. We split up years ago but we still have a lot of music between us. Argus remains one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s an excellent album front to back. Music is my heroin! I can’t live without it.

Now you know why I have been a Wishbone Ash fan since 1974...and after Argus, I bought their first two albums, and almost every studio album since. Have a Great Day 👍 P S. Wishbone Ash is credited with inspiring many other groups to include dual harmony guitars, including Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden and others.

Awesome! Many years ago I played on one of their guitars...I could feel the mojo radiating from it.

discovered Wishbone Ash in 1971 - I always listen to they works as if it is new.

That was about my 10,000 hearing of this song and I get as much pleasurer from it now as I did back in 1972 when I bought the album. Probably my favourite rock song ever and that's from a big list. By the way if you thing great guitar music with harmonies like this started in the 80s, think again :-)

Utterly astonishing, as you rightly say way ahead of their time, incredible playing and vocals, a rollercoaster ride that begins in calm waters then becomes a Tsunami, lyrically, to me, about regret that permeates from hesitation and lack of confidence. Thankyou so much to Kent and your goodself for an enthusiastic and insightful reaction. Think you will love " the way of the world " from the album No smoke without fire and perhaps you can enlighten me as to how many key changes there are in it

Can t believe they still tour ! I had an Album back in the 70s ! can t remember the title but i m sure there was a wishbone on the cover ! great band , underrated !

That was just called ‘Wishbone Ash.’ Sometime World was off ‘Argus.’ I’m 70. They are still touring in two different entities. Watched them about 73. Last saw them 2020! How mad is that!

The great bass writing in this song is not surprising when you hear his bass solo on the first album track Handy". Talk about and innovator... if that's even the right word.

Wishbone Ash are one of my favorites! This album gets all the accolades and it is great, but my intro and still my favorite is Wishbone Four. Very eclectic but has great tunes with vibe and feeling. A reaction to So Many Things to Say or Sorrel would be a first on YT. Check it out!

Wonderful reaction John , so good to hear you enthusing about my favourite band . They were fantastic on stage too. Argus is definitely their masterpiece . So many other great tracks on other albums i know you'd love. Errors of my Way , Way of the World , The Pilgrim, Lifeline , Mother of Pearl . Runaway to name but a few & of course the searing guitar epic that is Phoenix from their debut album .absolutely outstanding like Sometime World build slowly then explodes into action. Ps Martin Turner & Andy Fraser of Free fame my all time favourite bass players . Check out Andys amazing bass lines on Mr Big ! ! . Keep up the great work .

At the time we couldn't understand why so few knew of them. I still feel they didn't get the credit they so well deserved. I guess you can say it was and is a coming-of-age experience for the few of us who knew. Ahead of their time there's no doubt.

The Argus album should be up there with Boston's first album and maybe even Dark Side of the Moon, in my opinion. Thanks so much. If you didn't know, one side of the album is in minor the other in major.

argus is one of the greatest records of all time- unfortunately the band failed to live up to the pressure to follow it up- i remember buying the follow up wishbone 4 on the day of release and thinking "what the fuck is this?" but ,hey, one classic album for anybody is some achievement(and it is a TRUE classic)
