Hi all, it's Jeffles again coming back with another flight review! This time around I'm taking a flight with Cathay Pacific on an A350-900, flying from Sydney to Hong Kong. ‪@cathaypacific‬
I actually have mixed feelings being on this flight - while the seat features and entertainment system have significantly improved being a new product, and I've also included a review on their own handcrafted "Betsy" beer from 09:24, it was amazing! However, there is still a lot of work when it comes to the inflight services from Cathay Pacific.
I just find it odd that a lot of the basic services are missing from this flight, some cabin crew were not particularly friendly either. If you want to know how my flight goes, watch my full video to find out more!

I work as ground staff. It’s mandatory that we double check passports because sometimes passengers have discrepancies with the info they’ve provided online, and also to make sure customers are compliant with the country’s’ visa regulations. We get fined if we approve uplift if those were to occur.

Good to know about the mobile check-in. I would've gotten a bit annoyed at that as well had I not known beforehand. It's probably still faster to get your passport details checked at the boarding gate compared to lining up outside at check-in. lol I would've gotten impressed by the LED screen showing the seatbelt sign too 😂 Whoa additional tray table for your phone?! That's cool! It's a shame the cabin crew didn't seem as attentative or even offer something as simple as water. Did you try asking them directly eg. for water or toothbrush/toothpaste?

Haha I know right! I got a bit annoyed with the passport check but still understand why that has to be done. Yeah I had to go to the galley and asked for water - I usually bring like a huge water bottle so I just asked them to fill it up and I was set for the rest of the flight 😂

I also agree that CX’s services can be further improved, even though passengers are seating in economy class~

Yes! Singapore airlines treated their passengers well even on economy class, Cathay will need to catch up for sure haha

And when you really think about it CP is not a budget airline. I believe it's the company culture for a fast food type service mentality to feed volume rather than focusing on providing a personable experience. Korean Air has a more personable magic touch.

CX used to be the best airline. Unfortunately, it has not lived up to its reputation during the years. Would definitely need more smiles + service upgrades especially in the Y class. I do hope that the CX management will take onboard your constructive comments. From a diehard HKG CX fan!

Yes I've had that 'mobile check-in/hand luggage only' issue a few times too. Surely the main departures security barrier should automatically alert the gate security that you've passed through? It's happened to me at both LHR (no passport control) and BKK (with passport control) so I don't think that's the issue, plus the gate checks all passports anyway. Loving that beer idea though :-) Cheers!

Cathay Pacific is by far the best in terms of services and inflight entertainment. Not sure why people can bitch about a ticket they only paid $5000 HKD for

I have to say I partly agree with what you said. Their hardware is superb but their service is sub-par unfortunately. For a premium airline with similar prices, I would prefer SQ or Qantas.

There was quite some food featured in this video, but yes definitely more foodie content to come haha! I think that’s personal preference, at first I didn’t like the taste but it actually grew on me 😂😂

The whole verifying your passport even though you checked in online happened to me as well with Air New Zealand. However they did call my name at the gate before boarding

I also agree that Cathay’s services can be better improved, even though, I was a spoiled kid sitting business most of my time. It’s not like it used to be, even in business class nowadays. Even though I started sitting in Econ nowadays (since my parents still wanted to recommend and pay for business class for long haul after going to uni abroad but I forced them to let me sit in Econ) since I feel like their service products could be better and is currently not worth the current amount listed.

Flew Cathay SYD-LHR and back. Enjoyed their service, just after takeoff they came round with drinks and nuts followed by the meal service.

Good to hear that! It’s really odd that they didn’t provide any nuts or drinks on that particular flight... as mentioned my return flight back to Sydney was good and it was nothing like in my video.

Same, I got cheap tickets from CP during the Christmas period, but I guess there’s a reason why you pay for a premium for better services.

Man power is one of the problem
