1) in 1997 a 5.5-5.7 destroyed a cathedral in Assisi, Italy in much the same way. It doesn't have to be very powerful to bring down these almost ancient buildings. So i would guess your's at a 5.9 2) do you mean by victim's? Christmas or Easter. If you mean by the the time of year, then winter? Because the wood, stone and ground would be constantly absorbing moisture-making the ground especially less stable 3) the way the second tier of columns would really be just basically standing free, not anchored by anything other than their own weight. Probably the same in a real cathedral

As an indonesian i love watching your videos. In indonesia usually we don’t usually get teached for our safety requirements during an earthquake, usually when there is an earthquake here everyone just runs outside. I really hope my country Indonesia gets better education on earthquake safety because our country is in the ring of fire.

Very nice simulation! Haiti was only a Mag 7 and there was lots of this kind of collapse, but this could be a bit higher. Rainy season the ground would be saturated but if there was liquefaction seems like there would be cracks in the floor and more settling of external walls that seem to endure the shaking here. We just assume that any public ceremony would be devastating to humans inside. Watching this I was thinking of a few things. One, the Hagia Sophia Cathedral in Istanbul, and how it survived many earthquakes preceding and during 557 with a max of "only" Mag 6.4, only leading to just a dome collapse in 558. One tough cathedral. The other was these circular arches looked like composed of aggregate cement not stone voussoirs as in historical cathedrals. Curious how stone arches would fare, lots of them aren't even cemented but seem to endure for thousands of years.

I'd say somewhere between a 6.4 and a 6.9. As far as time of year, I can't really guess that because I'm not sure how that would impact things personally.
@susanl75143 ай бұрын
I think that a 6.5 with soil liquefaction (location-specific) would do it. Someone else's comment elsewhere, which I'm repeating here: Only four quakes have been rated as MMI XII and three of those four had magnitude less than 7 on the Richter scale.

Id say a 6.8 and the most vulnerable time would be early spring when the ground is wet and prone to liquefaction

You should make a downloadable game were you can make stuff and simulate an earthquake

I would say that the earthquake was a M 7.2, and the time is maybe mid-rainy season with the clouds,I think it's built of reinforced brick or concrete, and interesting for my guess for the built one is how it was almost destroyed during a M 7.0 earthquake, leading to my guess. Definitely good video of all!

It is almost impossible, actually impossible to estimate the magnitude. Because there is no relationship between magnitude and acceleration. But we can do a moment tensor and calculate a few magnitudes. PGD looks like 0.4m, Ground period looks like 0.5sec 0.4/0.6= 0.8m/s PGV MMI: 8.9 PGA: 0.55g Vs30: 350m/s Slip: 2.3m For this, it is a Ml 6.3 and Mw 6.5 earthquake locally. But it is not. Because there is a solid ground factor. If we take out the effect of solid ground, the values that will be measured in the epicenter of the earthquake on a alluvium cite will be PGA: 1.1g PGV: 176cm/s PGD: 1.4m MMI: 10.0 That equals Ml 7.2, Mw 7.3, Ms 7.5 or Mb 7.4 And for a correction, lets make it in a poor ground not an allivium, Vs30: 220m/s PGA: 0.86g PGV: 141cm/s PGD: 103.5cm MMI: 9.6 That equals Ml 7.0, Mw 7.1, Ms 7.2 and Mb 7.2 If we take its median, Ml 7.1, Mw 7.2, Ms 7.4 and Mb 7.3.

What about duration?
@cassidyytoysnhkk3 ай бұрын
@@OfflineDisconnects we can't say anything about that because we don't know the fault plane and that was an estimation because we had to have the focal depth to do moment tensor.

1. One of the biggest earthquakes ever -- Lisbon 1755? 2. Soil either waterlogged or dry as dust. End of a rainy or dry season 3. These cathedrals are ordinarily the most over-built structures ever.

If the god of the religious building would exist and care, the building would be immune to fire, lightning, flood, earthquakes and all the erosion, and it would provide an infinite source of free food and healing. How people never got this and could ever worship anything else than a god-of-lighting-and-fire is beyond me.

It's just a building. Even God himself says they won't work as a charm against danger God saismd to his rebellious people: "But if you will not obey these words, [God's laws] by myself I do swear,’ declares Jehovah, ‘that this house [Solomon's Temple] will become a devastated place.’ -Jeremiah 22:5 "This is the word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying: “Stand in the gate of the house of Jehovah [Solomon's Temple] and proclaim there this message, ‘Hear the word of Jehovah, all you people of Judah who enter these gates to bow down to Jehovah. This is what Jehovah of armies, the God of Israel, says: “Reform your ways and your actions, and I will allow you to keep residing in this place. Do not put your trust in deceptive words and say, ‘This is the temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah!" -Jeremiah 7:1-4 Well the ancient Jews continued to rebel and so God had the Babylonians destroy the Temple In addition: "However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made with hands..." -Acts 7:48 "The God who made the world and all the things in it, being, as he is, Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in handmade temples." -Acts 17:24 Also, Jesus himself prophesied that the 2nd Temple (Herod's) would be destroyed also-which it was in 70AD "Now as Jesus was departing from the temple, his disciples approached to show him the buildings of the temple. In response he said to them: “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, by no means will a stone be left here upon a stone and not be thrown down.” -Matthew 24:1-2 Jesus again said: "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the killer of the prophets and stoner of those sent to her-how often I wanted to gather your children together the way a hen gathers her brood of chicks under her wings! But you did not want it. Look! *Your house is abandoned to you.*" -Luke 13:34, 35 In the end it's just a building that serves a function. Even Solomon's Temple had to be repaired numerous times (before it's destruction) because it had fallen into neglect because the Kings of Judah would be bad and abandon the worship of God, thus leaving the Temple to rot during their reigns
