I have since learned that there is an English translation of the preface in the back of the book

I am from India. I was so excited to see that this is going to be reviewed by my favourite channel on KZbin. I pre-ordered this from Church Latin. Derek was absolutely fantastic and very helpful. The Bible is still on the way but it should reach me in a couple of days. Thanks for this sneak peek. I own the hardcover version also. Highly recommended. Top class quality.

Thanks for making this video!! Very beautiful Vulgate. I'm a huge pronunciation nerd (working on a related project now actually!) and your ecclesiastical pronunciation is just fine. You do well with the sounds themselves, it just could be more fluid (pauses between words), but that will come with time.

This is a beautiful new edition of this book! I originally bought the softcover edition for $65 less. As a Lutheran, Latin is a historically important ecclesiastical language in our theological tradition.
@ConvincedCatholicism3 ай бұрын
When did Lutherans switch to vernacular? I can’t remember correctly but I know Martin Luther either wanted to keep Latin or the lay faithful did
@Steadfast-Lutheran3 ай бұрын
@@ConvincedCatholicism Good question! It continued in use for a couple centuries in the academy. In church services, at first only a little vernacular was added; but eventually the Latin was completely eliminated, except in college chapels. Most of our greatest theologians wrote in Latin. And to this day, there's many Latin words that are still used in liturgical contexts.

@garfieldodie31063 ай бұрын
@@King-uj1lh I own a copy of the hardback 3 volume Douay Rheims before they stopped printing them (they only print them in soft cover now) and no, it doesn't have the same artwork. However it is well worth your time if you can't read Latin because it's very nearly a one to one translation of the Latin. The English characters are a little different than what you will be used to, though. For example, a "W" will be "VV" or an "s" will almost be an "f" but without the horizontal line. Sometimes words will be spelled like " vpo' ", which is "upon", the "v" is a "u" and the " ' " at the end is an "n". English hadn't been standardized yet, but it's nothing you can't figure out, you just have to be very diligent in your read.

Sorry to sound so critical and uncharitable. I take your point that it’s an unboxing video. It's just that KZbin is full of ill-prepared videos. This is a general comment rather than a criticism of you. I have the hardback edition of the Bible you unboxed and was interested to see the new edition.
