Thank you for sharing!! I pray people find things like this to draw closer to God!! It's too bad there aren't more of these in common public view today.

The CTS edition is very high quality - print, paper, binding, etc. Many Catholic materials need to look to Anglicans for how to make quality and beautiful Bibles, Breviaries, etc.

11:27 Divine Worship Daily Office Fulfills the Divine Office Obligation of Ordinariate Clergy. Deacons must pray Morning and Evening Prayer. Priests must Pray at least Pray Morning & Evening Prayer and at least one minor hour (many pray Sext and/or Compline). A normal Latin Rite Priest can fulfill his obligation with it, but he must ask permission of his bishop to use it.
@Broken_ChainsMАй бұрын
The reason why a priest must only pray one minor house is because morning and evening prayer are actually each combined versions of other offices. When the BCP was originally made the intention was that Morning Prayer was a combination of Mattins and Lauds and Evening Prayer was a combination of Vespers and Compline. So while it may seem like less morning and evening prayer are already technically 4 hours of prayer.
@ConvincedCatholicismАй бұрын
Thanks for the info. Yes I noticed that the Morning Prayers are essentially a combination of Office of Readings and Lauds

I used to use the CTS Common. edition but have since transitioned over to the Anglican Office Book. So much in the AOB. They also include the hymns for the pre-1955 Roman Breviary for all the days of the week + solemnities and commons. As I don't have any obligatiin to pray the office I can use what I want!👍😁 wished the LotH in English used the Anglican patrimony if music and beauty of language. Also, the LotH is made by Catholic Book Publishing which means low quality at an overpriced tag.

The AOB is an excellent option. It is surprisingly Catholic

I think both editions have their gives and takes. The Idea that the NAE is a complete wash, and the CWE is perfect is an oversimplification. The NAE is obviously meant to have a permanent home in the pews as POCSP encourages the parochial recitation of the Office. This would explain the choice to not include the lectionary, bind in hardcover. The CWE borrows more on the Roman Breviary aesthetic, which can be convenient in some areas. My primary issue is that it was clearly geared more towards clergy, and can sometimes be clumsy for laymen to use. I keep my CWE in my go bag for convenience, but at home I use my NAE.
@ConvincedCatholicismАй бұрын
I think your point on the oversimplifications is spot on. I have problems with how the propers are laid out in the CWE.

I have this prayer book and compared it to the Divine Worship:Divine Office United Kingdom. The structure and flow of the United Kingdom’s Prayer Book is better for me, the type face of the American version is better. I ended up with the Baronius Press Roman Breviary as my daily ritual.
@ConvincedCatholicismАй бұрын
I have heard nice things about it. I will have to save up for it

I have been waiting for about a year hoping the North American edition will be reprinted; I am still waiting, and still sad. However, I am very happy with my Commonwealth edition.

Diocesan Priests without an indult or dispensation for another rule of prayer by default are held to the Liturgy of the Hours. Summorum Pontificum granted a universal indult for Diocesan priests to fulfill their canonical obligation to pray with the Breviary of St. John XXIII (which Traditiones Custodes did not abrogate, it only focused on the order of mass and Roman ritual for dispensation of sacraments). I am sure a bishop could indult the use of DW:DO for a priest if the priest requested it for good reason.

Thanks for the video. I look forward to Part II. I really like the CTS Divine Worship Daily Office used in the UK. I never purchased a copy because I like using the Anglican Breviary and the Anglican Office Book 2nd Edition in tandem. I also have a modern reprint of the 1928 BCP with KJV and Apocrypha bound in genuine leather. Since I prefer the 1928 BCP to the 1662 BCP, if they release a 3rd Edition DWDO North American edition, I'd buy it. From what I saw of the contents, this Breviary looks good, except I wouldn't like the way the book is bound. Excellent review.

I have both the original printing of the NAE with all the typos and the second printing reviewed here. I also have the CWE, as well as both the first and second editions of the AOB and also the St Bernard Breviary published by ACNA. Have you seen the St Bernard Breviary? If so would you be willing to review it? It is an impressive book but I think it has several issues from a Roman Catholic point of view.
@ConvincedCatholicismАй бұрын
In regard to the St. Bernards Breviary, I wrote a community post some time ago expressing the same issues you are suggesting. I doubt I will ever review it. A book similar to it is the Anglican Office Book. While the Anglican Office Book is produced by a Protestant group it is not inherently non Catholic. The St. Bernards Breviary has many Catholic aspects but has many rites and feasts that embrace and promote Protestantism.
@farfisaorganАй бұрын
@ yes I understand exactly what you mean. The St Bernard Breviary has many commemorations of individuals who have no connection with the Catholic Church like Billy Graham. If a Catholic uses it at all it should be used with great caution. I have considered using the St Bernard Breviary for purely personal Morning Prayer on ferial days; it conveniently has daily scripture readings rather like the Commonwealth Edition of DW:DO. However, I would switch to the NA Edition of DW:DO for all Catholic feasts and use the online readings from the Covert website for convenience. Not sure if this two breviary arrangement would work; what do others think?
@stephenjohnson7915Ай бұрын
I think it’s important to remember that it’s not really a breviary, it’s a pew book, like the BCP. Some like that, some don’t (I have the UK version). The NA edition has elements that will be more familiar to Episcopalians, while the UK edition is based more on the 1662 English prayer book, and functions more like a breviary.
@ConvincedCatholicismАй бұрын
True. I think this certainly has elements of a breviary though
@NickyMetropolis1313Ай бұрын
It's a breviary. It's in some sense able to be prayed as a group and all but this is very much their prayer book to have deacons ,priests and bishops fulfill their office. It's a breviary and meant to be a breviary and based on different versions of the breviary

I sent mine back as the binding was too tight and the printing was not uniform. The paper also was miscut.
