Saint Catherine of Siena went to Pope Gregory XI in order to transfer his pontificate from Avignon in France back to Rome (Vatican). Do you undermine the effort and intention of the mere Catholic nun who was a layperson?

@@ourspiritualwarfareseries please take this video down. The advice on it is not correct. The priest is not correct and the issue of obedience with scruples falls into a separate domain. Please REMOVE this video for the sake of not misleading souls and seek correct advice from a competent traditional priest. This advice is WRONG

Spiritual direction is lacking. Its availability is limited. Many Priests have two and three parishes to run. They just dont have time.

What authority? I am not questioning, but asking. That is why we must pray for priest. I believe that priest have a formation that is very helpful in spiritual direction.

Priests, dont have time and arent willing to listen..sometimes they dont even have time for confession...

Spiritual direction is not about telling what to do, but laying out the landscape and helping the person discern what God wants then to do. We are free agents. And what about holy lay men and women, like e.g. St Catherine of Sienna? Many sought her wise advice. It's about holiness not a state of life. Any person close to God can be a good spiritual director.

Catherine of Sienna did not give spiritual direction but enlightened advice but not on an ongoing basis.

Catherine of Sienna did not give spiritual direction but enlightened advice but not on an ongoing basis. Sins come up in spiritual direction. No lay person has any grace to enter the inner forum of a soul period. And yes directors can give commands. Such as do not listen to the voice, ignore it. Sometimes this is a test .

Even the Holy saints like the mystical women were commanded by God to obey their confessors.

Can you cite any church teaching or documents on this? This seems greatly misleading and not true. Everything I’ve read seems contrary to what is stated here. I’m not trying to be scrupulous, but it’s concerning to me.
@MAB-y7o21 күн бұрын
There are graces of state, (a priest) and states of grace. No lay person has the particular graces of a priest, even a priest in Mortal sin can confect the Eucharist. Now do to understand? This is directly related to the graces given to the Priest for the salvation of souls. You could even liken it to the grace of infallibility to the Pope. Even if the Priest in the confessional tells you your mortal sin was not mortal. You are not held responsible because you went to confess to a priest in good faith. He is now responsible.
@jtrlatinist222719 күн бұрын
@@MAB-y7o It is my understanding that the priest in the video is saying that a priest can tell you to commit a mortal sin, and you will bear no guilt. This is contrary to everything I have read and have learned. The priest is not infallible nor are they impeccable. They are given graces and occupy a very special role.

I've spoken with a Traditional priest. This isn't correct. If a priest advises to do something objectively wrong you may not and must not follow him. Directions for scruples is a matter apart and has objective criteria. Please consult with a knowledgeable traditional priest. Id suggest showing him this yt clip so he can explain the matter to you.

I have spoken with a Traditional priest about this. This isn't correct. If the priest tells you to do something that is morally wrong you MAY NOT follow that. Being under obedience for scruples is a different matter and there are objective rules for that.

That's not true when we speak of moral wrongdoing. This is what the priest in clip said and it's not correct : 'You are no longer responsible for your choices once the priest tells you what to do...Let's suppose you go to confession and the priest tells you to do something that is wrong and you do it God will not hold you responsible for that wrongdoing he will hold the priest responsible'
@MrTzarBomb16 күн бұрын
@ it’s not good advice. You aren’t relieved of responsibility unless it’s a dispensation. Saying choices is broad enough to be clearly not talking about dispensations.
