Given how much damage control they've done post-interview, it just goes to show you how delusional they were to begin with. I mean, they themselves released the interview intact and unaltered because they must've thought they knocked one out of the park. It doesn't just have it's own pathetic quality to it, it's trickled out into the leftist sphere to the point that they'll either try to justify Newman's performance, or downplay it as irrelevant whilst doing everything in their power to discredit and slander Peterson; to the point that there's a sub on Reddit specifically to badmouth Peterson that has fairly high numbers (but that's more a matter of Reddit being taken over and infected by leftists and crowding out anyone else).

I was a Peterson fan. I thought it was great that Newman faithfully represented the worst of Peterson's critics. I thought this gave Peterson an opportunity to shine. And he did shine. What more does he want from an interviewer? If he had thanked her form this in his voluminous commentary of this interview, Cathy Newman's detractors would have been fewer, less harsh, and not as easily labeled bullying misogynists. She did a piss poor job, knew she did a piss poor job, then when called out on it she tried to play the victim to hide the fact that she knew she did a piss poor job, using the old tried and tested tactic of blaming "trolls". She did no preparation because she thought she could just bully her way through, she knew enough to know he wasn't the monster the left claim he is and was a mild mannered person, which she took as being weak and thought the bully tactic would work, not realising the calm demeanour was because he wasn't quick to fly off the handle and would consider his responses carefully. What she though was a weak person with views she assumed were bad that would fold with a bit of pressure, was in fact a bulldozer with scalpel like precision that cut her to pieces carefully and precisely and ultimately just walked right over her trampling her in the dirt or her misconceptions. Maybe in future she will do her due diligence, because if this happened again, no one could take her seriously, few do now as it is.

You know, its interesting how this happens often. Also seen it with William L Craig, who debates (or at least had, I haven't seen his more recent debates) atheists that think he is some sort of uneducated preacher, and then he just cuts through them like butter in his debates. The same thing I've seen with Ben Shapiro. He looks like a teenager, gets talked as such by those who debate him and again, he cuts through them like butter. I am not sure to what extent they actually invite people to underestimate them, but those that do come to the table unprepared, and when their spin and half baked arguments fail, they then try to wing it which makes them look even worse. I can understand if this happens once or twice. But when the same thing happens over and over and over again, you got to wonder why.

No, you're drawing the wrong lesson from this. The truth is even more alarming, or even sadder, depending on how you look at it. It is true that standards at British universities have fallen considerably, even at Oxford and Cambridge, but you still have to be intelligent even to enter those universities, let alone graduate with a first. So, the question is: how can an intelligent person be so stupid about something? (Because I think we can take it for granted that Newman is _not_ stupid about many subjects, or in many situations.) The only answer that makes sense is that, as Peterson himself would put it: she is ideologically possessed. Ideologies are truly powerful, and awful, things. No amount of native intelligence is proof against them. Do you think that all the top members of the Nazi Party in Germany, or all the top communists in Russia, China, or Cambodia, etc. were stupid? And yet, they were capable of believing things that, viewed objectively, were certain to lead to disaster. Thinking that way is the surest route to underestimating the danger posed by the modern leftist/liberal ideology. We should never call them "idiots," because they certainly aren't that. If only they were.

Her reflections say a great deal about how women view the world. A male interviewer comes across as more assertive because he thinks critically about the answers he receives and challenges them in an open and honest fashion. Female interviewers like Newman study these interactions and note the assertive nature of the exchange. They then simulate this approach by deliberately being contrarian in order to appear more assertive. But, in reality they are playing at it because they aren't doing it for the right reason. On a superficial level the exchange has the same combative nature, but the underlying reason for that outcome is completely different and any man will see the difference instantly. Pitted against an 'opponent' of Peterson's calibre, this was always going to end badly for her.

I thought Newman was disgraceful. After Peterson explained why sex alone is just not responsible for the pay gap, Newman must have repeated five times that Peterson is okay with the pay gap which he NEVER even came close to saying. How many times does Peterson have to repeat to ignoramuses the difference between equality of opportunity and equality of outcome? Didn't Newman do ANY homework about the nuances of Peterson's major stances, nearly all of which are backed by a century of personality assessment and, of course, Peterson's clinical practice? It's atrocious that people like Newman can use their position of power as alleged TV journalists to push their own ideological agenda. If I ran Channel 4, that interview would have led to a warning that if Newman interviewed like that again she'd be sacked.

The issue here was she looked at it (as said) as winning or losing, in her mind she would "win" if she made Dr P look like a misogynist......instead of actually learning something, finding out about Dr P and what he stands for, she tried, and failed miserably to push her agenda. In other words: she brought a knife to a gun fight.

“The heart of pride is ENMITY. Enmity toward God and enmity toward your fellow man.” Enmity means being in a state of opposition. That was Newman’s problem. She wasn’t seeking the truth, she was trying to win.
@seaglider8446 жыл бұрын
You know I kinda hoped that Newman might have admitted that this approach of re framing of a guest's answer into a statement that they didn't make.....is wrong. And to take a more conversational approach. But to again position oneself as a victim and whine about how people say mean things on the Internet, all the while lacking honesty and journalistic credibility yourself. Well I guess I should have known that might be the response.....but she should know if she carries on this way she'll just be a punch line to a joke in the long run. People are watching her much more closely now.

Douglas Murray recently wrote an article in which he touches on this hyper-antagonistic progression in politics. He says: "It is a trend which seemed to start with online videos which were given headlines such as ‘X CRUSHES Y’, or ‘A DESTROYS B’. Soon this became the format for almost any excerpt from any political argument. Click-bait was the word coined for that. A video titled ‘Mr A mildly corrects Ms B on a matter of common interest’ might not bring either great attention or consequent advertising revenue. And when any highlight of a broadcast political exchange involves ‘crushing’, ‘destroying’ or (even more popular) ‘annihilating’ opponents, the performance of politics evolves in click-baitable directions." I guess it's that sort of market that Cathy is attempting to fill in old media.

To call her a "journalist" may not be an accurate use of the term or profession. Since the inception of the 24 hour news cycle and "news" outlets, and that is a very liberal use of the word "news", these networks have gone to producing personalities much as the same as Hollywood produces their stars. The way these personalities make to the top time slots and pay grade is to create dramatic, shocking and eye (and ear) catching content. The most simple means of doing this is to set up and interviewee for the "gotcha" moment which Newman attempted and it seriously backfired in her face. Peterson deconstructed her motives and tactics on air, to her face, and completely demonstrated her for what she truly is... not a credible journalist, but rather a tabloid style leftist whose ideological belief system is only concern with self-interest.

Right after the "gotcha" moment in the interview, the conversation turns to Peterson's claim that identity politics is the same rationale that fueled the brutal regimes of Stalin and Mao. Newman becomes incredulous accusing Peterson of saying that trans people are like Mao and Stalin, which of course, he did not say. He said the trans activists use the same rationale and tactics---which is true. Because that went completely against her argument/beliefs, and she couldn't really handle that particular inconvenient truth, she immediately resorts to insult and ad hominem..."You're just a provocateur, you like to provoke, you're just like the alt-right who you claim you're not part of...let's talk about lobsters." Reminded me of Socrates statement: “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

I think she was just doing her job as she was paid to do it. Which is trial by fire. Throw every thing out and see what if anything sticks. Her style is blood sport. What she may or may not actually believe is irrelevant she's there to light people up if she can. Peterson even said that he was surprised because she was very pleasant backstage and then as soon as it was on it was like a switch flipped. And she said that she thought it went very well. Both things evidence that this is a persona she dawns for the purposes of ratings. I think she just wasn't ready for the internet taking things as seriously as it tends to do. But I think she's figured it out now. Never apologize. Always double down.

Newman got bested in the Peterson interview, it's plain, if being confronted with facts, calm logic and a hint of chivalry can be called such. Her football analogy was fine, except that in saying "You don't always put the ball in the back of the net" and "you win some you lose some" is philosophical sounding, but she didn't just fail to score; she did something akin to missing the net by the width of container ship and hitting a fan in the melon, to boot! When a team gets drubbed, 8 to 0, it's news. Footballers, after a beat down, say things like "we were just awful tonight" or " you can't stink it up much more than we did tonight" before ending on some philosophical note and pressing on.

@@jeromespike It doesn't imply that at all, the video is not called 'Cathy Neman appears in the video reflecting'. You've decided that in your own imagination, It describes her comments after which can be accurately described as her reflections. The title also says 'sort of' which speaks to the fact that her reflection is very shallow, ie it's not much of a reflection. This is what happens when you don't pay attention in school.
