Reminds me of my dove shooting... 1 dove per 25 shots! 😆 Great video, Catman!

I've ate Gar. What you have to go through to eat that fish is absolutely insane! Tin snips, Sawzall, and lots of slime. Meat comes like a deer tenderloin and it's actually pretty good, but definitely not worth the trouble. Those things are definitely dinosaurs. Make sure you ice it immediately too. The meat starts to dissolve otherwise.

Agree they are a pain. Smaller ones are nicer though. Just a tin snips and filet knife. I wash the slime off before doing anything. Ice water helps get it off quick. Definitely something you want to eat the day you catch it or at the most a day or two cold in refrigerator. I like it too much to toss em. I don't get very many. Usually by accident fishing for something else.

Anyone can publish a series of misses, but you set a record.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think I'm anxious to get some Catman deer hunting videos when I'm in New England watching him bowfish for carp in muddy water. Catman, how about some outtakes from last fall's hunts???

Hey catman we down here in Louisiana where the gar are everywhere. There is a fairly easy way to clean them out and several ways to cook them up. If you want some tips just let me know. Looking forward to more videos.

Hay hook seems to work great as a gaffe. Great video as always.

I ate one last year, the meat is pretty and white but very soft. I found it better to add chopped onions, cream corn, diced jalopenos, an egg, a little sugar and yellow corn meal and make it into fritter or gar ball. Great, deep fried. Hanna Barron has a video on cleaning, they use a sharp machete or clever and take about 2" strip out of the back. I used vise grips to hold it open and the back straps come out like a deer. It was not hard, enjoy. PB

Ice water bath firms the meat up nicely.

You'll be in good shape for archery season. Think I said that on last video 🤣🤣. I tore down my archery target, still haven't rebuilt my range. Slacking 😂😃

That's a good eating gar!!! Once you get the hide off it's all nice pearly white meat, super tasty!!!

Catman you ever eat those backstraps on a gar? I fooled my wife with it. Seasoned and breaded and told her it was chicken strips. She bought it. Definitely will be eating every one I get from here on out (I don't get many).

What water are you on I didn’t realize you had to contend with those. Camera doesn’t show how big the river your on. Can’t wait to see the cleaning and cooking of that Gar dinner 🍽! Nicely done ✅ Hook is a 🪝! Lol 😂👍🏻

All the gar I shoot end up as dog food or garden fertilizer. Would like to see the cooking video, I may try it if I ever get a biggun.

Your gaff looks more like a hay hook, but, if it's not made to float, you should consider getting a lanyard for it.
@CatmanOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
It is a hay hook. Good idea on the lanyard
@williamgaines97842 жыл бұрын
@@CatmanOutdoors hay hook works for the purpose. Yeah, one slip, no more hook.😣 Whether to just lash it to the boat or making a slip loop for the wrist would be a personal choice. Or you could put a pool noodle on the end of the lanyard to buoy it if it goes overboard. Looks like a lot of fun.
