Catwoman is a fictional character from the DC Comics universe and she is probably one of the most well-known female characters in all of the DC universe. Men want her and women want to be like her, everyone swoons over this femme fatale who catwalks through the city in her black catsuit and red lips. Selina Kyle, who goes by the moniker Catwoman, is a cat thief who has an on-again, off-again romantic relationship with Batman. She is shown as a strong-willed, independent woman and many times, morally problematic lady. However, the focus of today’s video isn’t any of that. Today we are focusing on the origin story of everyone’s favorite femme fatale and how she became who she is.
Comic book origin myths are notoriously fickle. Small adjustments to a character's background are made as different writers take on the role. Many comic characters have been around for a long time, and their origin stories often vary to reflect current beliefs and values. For example, Catwoman's origin tale has altered dramatically over the years, with Selina Kyle evolving into an anti-hero and occasional villain in various ways. Selina has gone from villain to anti-hero, from amnesiac flight attendant to street criminal, and everything in between since her introduction in "Batman #1." Selina has gone through a lot of transformations since her inception by Bill Finger and Bob Kane.
