*Anand* was at *+5 evaluation* in the middle game. How he drew that game is amazing! In the interview after the game, *Ding* said every move was wining for Anand.

What is amazing about experienced Daniel's commentary is that he predicts the actual psychological thinking behinds moves which might have contributed to a bad result in the game. How psychology or just missing a critical move in an winning game can actually affect your future games. Even Anand said that his game against Wesley he just couldn't get a nice sleep and it was troubling him.

Vishy has accumulated a lot of chess understanding but somehow he can't put the final nail in his opponent's coffin... Nakamura pointed out many candidate moves during the live coverage and found Ne4 quite quickly....

He wouldnt find that f4 idea though, but his old age allows him to get good positions out of the opening due to experince but his middle game tactical ability is reduced with age, as is normal.

Age and playing to minimize risk. That is why he missed it as he never considered the possibility. I am sure if you gave Anand this position and asked him, "black to win", he would find it soon enough (Nakamura took all of 15 seconds to find it) but if you are not looking for it, you will never find it.

Great to see some Vishy games. He's one of the All Time Greats. And this and the Giri game just show how tight it is right at the top. Thank you GM King.

I am shocked at how Anand won a drawn position, but can't win actual won positions.

He didn't win the first game against Nepo. Anand said if the rules allowed it, he would have offered a draw. Nepo simply blundered his rock. Anand should have won at least 2 games against *Giri* and *Ding.* That's why he was so frustrated that he just shook hands and left.

After Ra6, preventing Nc7 via Rc6, what's wrong with Nxe8 Rxc2 Nxf6+ Nxf6 Qxc2 And white has 2 rooks for the queen

You are right that ...Ra6 does not prevent Nc7 but in the position after the exchanges, 20...Bd7 still gives Black the better chances as the rooks cannot enter on the open file and Black enjoys a pleasant space advantage.

Question: when you say black moves the bishop a third time to d6 to break out the pawn on e5 why didn't he just retreat to that square beforehand from b4 and save a tempo?
@telemahos2
@telemahos2 5 жыл бұрын
Well, the D pawn is still in d7 when the Bishop retreats, but if you insist play 4... Bd6

I was sure Vishy had the Win when I saw those 2 bishops on the back rank (You Alpha Zero you.) Too bad. (Vishy must be making too much money to keep swatting the upstarts.) ♚💭💃
