I agree! It is still my favorite album. I like the strong spirituality in it. She knew in her teens what took me decades to grasp. It's deep stuff. Moving is my favorite. The Them Heavy People video cracks me up since I deal with a lot of 'heavy' people. I'm still in discovery mode, but Hello Earth and This Woman's work are also faves. You can have your preference but I prefer Maxwell. Maxwell changes the POV to a guy's view. He conveys regret, introspection, and a willingness to change. Objectively though Maxwell's version is more difficult. His smooth falsetto's are harder to do. I do like Kate's version but objectively from a musicality standpoint Maxwell's is better.

@@aaronmontgomery2055 That's exactly what Kate is doing. She sings this from the man's perspective as well. She's done it on many occasions. On "Pull Out The Pin" she's a North Vietnamese soldier tracking his target, an American GI. On "Ran Tan Waltz" she's a cuckolded man. She empathises with just about anyone and anything. On "Breathing" she's an unborn foetus.

This song was written for the film "She's Having a Baby", and it's about a very specific situation - an expectant father sitting in the waiting room while his wife is giving birth. In the film, it plays after the birth takes a dangerous turn and the mother's life is in danger. He's sitting there unable to do anything, thinking about all the great things he never really appreciated about his marriage. It's done so effectively that I start crying just hearing the song. @@warrenbridges1891 and moods. Every album has its own personality. In the 80s I didn’t have cable or satellite TV, I just didn’t watch TV often enough after leaving home to want to pay for it. As a result, I didn’t see things like MTV or VH1 very much unless I was at someone else’s house. But I will say I did really like the artwork on her album covers. But over the course of her album releases I mainly just heard her songs. And I’m glad because her songs often have that amazing ability to touch me at an emotional and subliminal level of my own. I’ll see the videos on KZbin and often I find myself not that interested in watching what she came up with to accompany her music. There are a few exceptions, like Wow. But for the most part, the music, the images and feelings they evoke are more than enough for me. For instance, Blow Away when I heard it called up memories from when I was around six and the feelings I had then when I was that age. I don’t know why. Moments of Pleasure leave me with a more valedictory sense of looking back over my life with a sad mellow feeling of nostalgia.

With all due respect to your valid opinion, I was actually surprised at myself for how much I Disliked Maxwell's interpretation. After typing what I just wrote above I went back and Truly watched and paid attention to his version of her song. First: I have to say that man has a set of pipes on him! What talent!! I think what turned me off about him is that he deviated from the original too much, and with that he left out a lot of key emotion. I say this as someone who found this song as a 16 yr old back in 1988, which was an emotional period in my life and this song had a massive impact. Looking at it again with an objective heart today, I will say that it is good- but to truly experience the true depth of the soul of the song, Kate's version is exactly the way it was intended. I've heard many other attempts however, and I agree that his is the best of the covers.

@@combatgirl38 I much prefer Maxwell's version. I love the changes as Kate's version doesn't come from a guy's POV to me. Specifically how maxwell's changes at the end express the male POV in desperate to helpless to a willingness to change and do. Objectively the last minute of Maxwell's version is better in terms of musicality. That moment when someone comprehends the genius that is Kate Bush.. You really need to listen to 'dream of sheep'. It's sublime.

Congratulations on discovering our Kate! She was, is, and perhaps always will be, light-years ahead of her time. She is the shining light for those of us who grew up listening to her; as is the case with many others since. She’s the ‘Genie’ in genius - sheer magic! Go to it, and play many more of her compositions - you are in for a treat and a half! Respect!

Kate is an actual living legend.. poet...story teller.. modern day scribe... 200 years from now her back catalogue will be as relevent to that time period in future as their science papers.

There is not a single moment when I listen to this song that I do not get a lump in my throat at minimum - it usually ends with tears rolling slowly down my cheeks. Kate Bush is truly an amazing person, I have been a fan since the first release of Running Up the Hill when I was in my early teens - I too wish she toured more, but I am not really sure I would have even had the chance to see her then. I wish she would release a video of her last concert - from the fan shots I have seen it looks like it was truly epic (like we would expect anything else).

In 1978 I was 8 years old , growing up in New Zealand. I first heard Kate Bush with *Wuthering Heights* a huge number one in the charts. It was beautifully melancholic and a hauntingly romantic song with terrific accompanying music. This bloke encapsulates that very first feeling with soulful sincerity
@Rhiannon0114 жыл бұрын
Actually when you watch "This woman's work" music video Kate is with her loved one having dinner and all of a sudden she collapses, then they are in the hospital and she seems to be very ill "touch and go" for a bit and she comes outside her body and is observing and watching her loved one "heartbreak" thinking he is losing her. She is saying the words in this song to him as she follows him around and in the waiting room. Then he gets the news she is going to make it. This is Kate's "Original song" she wrote and sang it...no Kate never gets much credit or praise for anything in the "Pop world" but to most of us that love Kate we KNOW her true talent, in singing, writing, producing, dancing and original music video's..

I personally fell in love with his song when I first heard this song in the 80’s, in the UK she was a true star then, this womans voice was a force of nature, she was ahead of her time, to say she came out in the late 70’s you would loved it or hated it, but it stood the test of time, it’s been covered by a number of artists, maxwell being one of them and I liked his version as well by Kate Bush will all ways be my go to artist, 👏👏🙏🏼🙌🙌👍👍❤️❤️

Lyrics: [Verse 1] Pray God you can cope I stand outside this woman's work This woman's world Ooh, it's hard on the man Now his part is over Now starts the craft of the father [Pre-Chorus] I know you have a little life in you yet I know you have a lot of strength left I know you have a little life in you yet I know you have a lot of strength left [Chorus 1] I should be crying, but I just can't let it show I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking Of all the things I should've said That I never said All the things we should've done That we never did All the things I should've given But I didn't Oh, darling, make it go Make it go away [Verse 2] Give me these moments back Give them back to me Give me that little kiss Give me your hand [Pre-Chorus] I know you have a little life in you yet I know you have a lot of strength left I know you have a little life in you yet I know you have a lot of strength left [Chorus 2] I should be crying, but I just can't let it show I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking Of all the things we should've said That were never said All the things we should've done That we never did All the things that you needed from me All the things that you wanted for me All the things that I should've given but I didn't Oh, darling, make it go away Just make it go away now
