Yes. It is very easy to Monday morning quarterback any call, but with that much fire already through the roof, why are we on it and cutting more vent holes?

LAFD Battalion Chief John Mittendorf would have recommend against being in that roof at that time. Thankfully all evacuated in time. RIP Sir! You taught so many important lessons.

After almost losing three guys in my dept to a roof falling in, we stopped this practice. It's just not worth the risk.

Why would you even consider being on a roof when it’s already well ventilated you’re looking for a disaster. Safety Director, officer or chief should’ve pulled you off the roof minutes before.

Damn shame the camera moved at 2:19 just as roof was breaking up!! Watch as guys are just (finally) deciding to get off and they get on the aerial and you can see and hear the roof cracking up. What is up with all of the portables?? Don't need them, 2 were already up. Then guys are trying to get them down and out, again roof cracking apart and collapses. They are so lucky that wall did not kick out too.

KNN guy got lucky. Almost got smoked when that 24 fell!! And that 14 footer almost took out the other firefighter.

@@jrslzr1 Both of those 35' ladders would have probably killed someone if it hit them in the head. 2 of those ladders should not even have been thrown.

From the web.. All LAFD safety attire has a effective life span. In early 2022, amidst a new and necessary replacement cycle, the LAFD requested bids, selected and procured the MSA Cairns Model 1044 as its initial issue and mandated replacement Structural Firefighting Helmet.
