Masterfully done, even with a little battle with a broken string at the end. Greg Koch is a wizard of the axe, no less than the hero's he pays tribute to.

We’ll done! When I first started playing guitar in my early twenties this is the kind thing I loved to listen to. Slow and sad and makes you appreciate the individual contributions of each instrument. Then I got away from playing and life got to be a crazy combination of work and kids and everything else. It’s nice to be taken back to the simpler pleasures in life.

I've seen him back in the 90's live in Appleton, WI at a small bar. He was great then, and looks like he's only getting better. I can't find any of his first albums, but this cover was on it, and it was astounding back in like 1994.

I think Greg’s playing is the closest thing to hearing the influence of Jeff Beck without it being a copycat Greg, so inventive is playing, is so quirky, sometimes and playful, and he uses the volume and tone, knobs and whammy bar and especially his insanely great bending and vibrato in a similar way to beck and really there’s no one else that can play cause we ended as lovers other than Jeff Beck like Greg Koch. and Dylan is just crushing it on the drums
broke a string right at the end haha, but finished gloriously!

Greg played great here. I still can’t believe Jeff Beck passed. Beck to me was the human guitar if that makes sense. Everyone wants to be like him and impossible to copy. We all try very hard though lol. His music lives on forever and you can feel it right here in this version, well done.
@alfredh5022 Жыл бұрын
Greg has been playing this for at least 10 years. This is his best version, despite the broken string. He plays Strats, but he likes the T-style. I'll bet he heard Beck do it on a Telecaster and that was even better than a Stratocaster. This version needed more subtle drums and more organ, IMHO.

Jeff Beck is the electric guitar. The electric guitar is Jeff Beck. Jeff Beck lives on. Any time you hear someone laying out something tasty on an electric, Jeff's spirit is there.
@philf4086 Жыл бұрын
Great version, broken string and all! Not to take anything away from this tribute as it is fantastic, but Beck's version is so ingrained in my memory that all other attempts pale just a bit by comparison. Sort of like trying to remake Casablanca or Wizard of Oz. Good luck!

With Beck you can’t always tell what is whammy or slide, or what is fret bends or whammy. With Greg you’re not altogether surprised he has heard of Jeff Beck.

I know this is supposed to be a guitar video but the drummer is so great, I have to comment on that.. He is creating such a pocket, just the right amount behind the beat to make it feel great. Too bad there was no bass player for him to work with.

@MrCherryJuice Жыл бұрын
Great guitar. But the drummer totally misses the point and should have a listen to the dynamics on Beck's version on 'Blow by Blow'. It is all about subtlety, and starts with brushes before kicking up to sticks. There is no point in Greg being subtle yet the drums are bashing and crashing, playing a beat, not cultivating the groove. This is made even worse given the absence of bass guitar and pulsating Rhodes chords to lay down the spacious pulse heard on the record. A fine version that could be fantastic.
