A P2096 Code can be difficult to troubleshoot since it can be caused by many different things.
If you are getting other codes, they can help point to the issue.

Bad O2 Sensor
Dirty or bad Mass Air Flow Sensor
Vacuum Leak
Exhaust Leak
Fuel Delivery Problem on Bank-1 (Bad injector, Low fuel pressure, bad sensor)
Clogged Catalytic Converter

2008 Ram 1500 3.7L. Was getting P2096, O2 sensor bank one was constanly .01v no changes so i change all 4 and still get the same code while all sensors fluctuate from .01-.08v Th runs fine engine . i will check all other possible problems you mention and will repost. Very right to the point video, I like your technical expertise.

Great video and information. Just got a P2096 code for 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS. This occurred during a road trip so had to drive it 150 miles before I could hook up my OBD reader to figure out the code. The only code was the P2096. It ran fine on the highway at 75mph. The car has 105k miles on it. Thoughts? I assume since it is just a 4 cyl that there is only a Bank 1 and no Bank 2, correct?

I’m running a catless downpipe and get this code weekly .. I checked and no vacuum or exhaust leaks and replaced O2 sensor I guess this will be a code when catles

I’ve had a p0420 code for a short time and tried several catalytic cleaning methods found on you tube without success. I decided to try an O2 spacer and now I’m getting a p2096. I’m no longer getting a p0420 but I’m thinking I’d rather have the p0420 than the p2096 messing with fuel mixture. I have no drive ability symptoms but the CEL bugs me, besides the fact that the cruise control doesn’t work with the CEL on. 2008 Subaru Forester.

A car cannot have a bad afr because of the p2096. Remember your before catalytic converter o2 does all the calculations if no code is thrown on that one, but a code is present after the cat then the cat must be bad. Post cat o2 sensor is only used for observing the catalytic converter health. The first o2 sensor is what actually monitors your engine.

I've been randomly on & off getting the p2096 code. Sunday night, i got the code again while driving on highway. After exiting the highway at the light, i came to a stop, then the car stalled and hasn't started again since then😢when i try to start my car it sounds like the engine is being bogged down if that makes any sense....plzz help if you have ANY advice - 2005 Dodge Stratus sxt

only code im getting on my Genesis G70. Dealer told me they check everything and can't find any fault recommended the Tune up... expensive to see if that would help. not sure what to do I see no difference in driving.

Dealing with this code after replacing both banks catalytic converter, had p0420, and P0430, no other codes present, or issues were present. fuel trims looked at normal range, now B1 is rich over 14%+, I guess two things happen either I left an exhaust leak, or the A/F sensor is acting up,...when reading B1,S2 volt signal first was stuck in rich(eng. was hot, fuel trims kind normal, over the edge) .08v then after , 30mis the B1S2 signal move stuck lean .02v. Then is when the fuel trim got way out of control, super rich.

Yes, I would also test the injector and coil on cylinder #4.

For everybody, If u have no other codes present, Dont waste ur time on anything else, It is mostly the CAT going bad, If u can have it cleaned or replaced.

Guys any one can help plz. Got this code on kia lotze 2009 ( in usa optima), 4 CYL engine, haa only bank 1 I aasume. Got this code, engine starts normally and on road is ok ran with speed 140km/h.. May be I think it consume little bit more fuel,,, otherwise is fine.... Took it to mechanicto check with his scan tool, said if there is no exhaust leak then its your O2 sensor,,,, its bit expensive and this might not solve my issue,,, any suggestions

Although i agree with that in general but, O2 sensor has been there on cars since late 90s. This is nothing new. The mas air flow sensor is also pretty old. Vacuum leak too.
