Lesson on Vitamin B12 Deficiency Causes, including dietary intake issues, medication use, gastrointestinal disease (ex. crohn’s disease, celiac disease), GI infections, pancreatic disease and autoimmune conditions (ex. pernicious anemia). Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is essential in our diet as we are not able to synthesize it ourselves, and it is necessary for healthy red blood cell production, DNA synthesis and central nervous system functioning. Vitamin b12 deficiency can be due to a variety of causes within 2 major categories: reduced dietary intake and compromised absorption. Compromised absorption entails a wide variety of causes including certain medications, and issues within the gastrointestinal tract.
In this lesson, we discuss a detailed overview of causes of Vitamin b12 deficiency, including discussing pernicious anemia, crohn’s disease, celiac disease and We also discuss the physiology of normal B12 metabolism and absorption and discuss where in this physiological pathway many disease states interfere with B12 absorption.

So eating too quickly, not chewing sufficiently, should inhibit, reduce, the amount of saliva taking the one way trip down with the B12 containing food. Logic would dictate that we are off to a bad start for B12 absorption. Thoughts people?

Hello JJ medicine, you say anything can cause B12 methabolisme and absortion disruption. Also if you have diarea for 4 years with blothing belly? Please dont mind misspelling of words English is not my first language I speek fluently but grammar sucks.

Look into dna test for mthfr gene variant. Try to find a good biochemist Naturopathic doctor that is aware of epigenetics.

Thanks i am trying to get my health on track i am seventy and have been trying all my life to fix my body. from what my body is telling me i have worms. what can i do to help my self without going to a Docter? i think if i have them and i get rid of them i can have a better life thanks

For worms take horse paste Ivermectin. Cures virus too. Look it up

I had all the symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency except fatigue, all after 18 years of veganism. I started eating eggs, raw yogurt Kefir, some goat cheese... and soon I will try some chicken. I don't eat this because I want to, but because I have to..

I used Genestra chewable b12 and b9 combined and took b6 separately. Felt 16 again within 3 days.

Hello I need help please! I am having issues nerve pain stabbing random pains/muscle spasms. I took spectracell micronutrient test and I am deficient in all these vitamins. I have been targeting these foods highest in these vitamins but I still have this pain all over my body. What should I do? I went to neurologist plus gastro only showed inflammation in digestion system and removed non cancerous tumors. Bloods test came back normal except for liver enzymes alt and creatin kinase slightly elevated. Nerve pains didn’t occur until 1 week after Vacine(Moderna) not sure if any of this related since I had digestion issues prior but this time endoscopy shows inflammation throughout intestines. -b12 -selenium -chromium -folate -zinc -inositol -Pantothenate

@@sandilobianco6734 a lot better than back then , you have same issues? Right now I’m starting on a 4 day water/salt fast we’ll see if I can actually do it before I break idk!? But I seen great things about longer term fasting maybe this can be full recovery!

I have chrons disease diagnosed in 2008 and had my first b12 shot today. I always feel tired, foggy brain and low energy. Let’s see if it makes a change 🙌🏾

Question..... can anyone explain or give clarity on the following ... does any change to typical Purine & Pyrimidine, folate, B6 or B12 pathways during pre or early post natal periods result in heritable genetics that could be passed from that baby should they procreate in later life?

It is an autoimmune disease under gastroenterology....so it is still a GI disease as well as a rheumatologic disease..

My biochemist prescribed chewable methylcobalamin with methylfolate. Changed my life in 3 days. DNA test confirmed it was a common genetic variant in my case.

Amazing i think my mother is suffering from issues of b12 deficiency she has all the symptoms which i dont think i need to go into suffice to say she has had ulcers and also has T2 diabetes so she is taking omeprozole and metformin for the last 5 years. She is in a pretty bad way always tired and in pain with pins and needles in her feet and legs plus always exhausted. The doctors have never suggested anything re B12 deficency and i have been researching myself and after videos like this have come to the decision i should try her with some b12 supplements. My worry is because of her low stomach acid because of ppi use will B12 capsules even work and if so which type of B12 and at which dosage. I hope someone can help me with this i am very worried for her.

Sometimes when I eat meat it feels like I am not digesting it properly. I am suffering slot from either B12 or B6. I feeling very bad. Tired, bloated, dry skin, esp scalp, esp. I feel like there is something above my navel. I feel thirsty, I lost glow on my face and much more..

Honestly I have a similar issue. I have severe IBS-D so I cant absorb it readily. If you havent seen a doctor about your digestion with digestive symptoms, I'd try there, but also like what the other guy said. Additives like dyes, preservatives, and some artificial flavors, almost always cause a flare up to my IBS. See a specialist if you can.

​@@shankarsureshkumar7587Have you ruled out celiac? Also have you ever had a dna test translated by a trusted epigenetics company? My biochemist Naturopathic doctor had me do that dna test and her recommendations were life changing. I also take digestive enzymes which made significant difference. But my best progress was with guidance of a trustworthy Naturopathic doctor in conjunction with tests run by my GP or specially ordered by me.

I'm not celiac but the gene variant I carry does not do well with the synthetic b vitamins added to bortg american wheat to call it "fortified". Reducing wheat consumption helps me. As did the correct form of b vitamins and taking digestive enzymes. Best results to you.

Yes , because coffee contains caffeine and it isn't good for health and alcohol and other beverages are unsaturated liquids ..so they're prone to deficiency along with diet intake.

Depends on your genetics for the caffeine. Alcohol does eat up b vitamins so yes there.

My biochemist prefers to use the word optimal rather than going with what is normal. My biochemist told me optimally they prefer to see it closer to 800. Mine was 140. For me my low result was shown to be genetic. Resolved symptoms in 3 days with the correct form of b vitamins (methylcobalamin with methylfolate) prescribed based on what dna test confirned and blood tests went from 140 to 714 at 2nd test. Amazing health and energy now and less pain and reduced cravings for sugar. Mood is stable now. Quality sleep now.
