A little game I play is to anticipate how you are going to execute your flies when I see the finished product at the start of the video. I guessed right! Tie in the hackle up front and run the thread to the back in order to secure it and make it more durable. Great minds think alike.

Nice one Tim. I have no doubt that version will fish nicely. As you noted the traditional is kelly green body but I myself have tied variants with color similar to that and also purple that have hooked fish. Some people will also use a version with a Green/ red tag combo.

I'll never get to fish for Atlantic salmon, but I can see this pattern getting scaled down and used for trout. Thanks for sharing.

I do a lot of things different, in ways I believe is "better" (probably won't ever notice the difference in any way - except for my nerd factor) but I will definetly use the colouring the thread thrick, if I ever tie a fly again.

what other colors might work for this fly and trout?

Hope all is well with you and yours. Did you happen to have a chance to make any of Gary Lafontaines type of flies with the sparkle yarn yet? Take Care, Mike and Bonda 😊

Question: The Floss, Yarn, and Thread are all so similar in color that it seems like a lot of effort to add in the floss. What is the reasoning behind it?
@DyslexicTurtle2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing, i'd honestly just build up the body with tying thread. The hackle hides a lot of the segmentation and I seriously doubt the fish care.
