When he said that Linkin Park fans were more like a culture than just regular people who like a music group, it was so heart touching. ❤️ For me, I feel like we’re that culture that is fighting this world to change through music, support, and just generally caring for each other and spreading positivity. Linkin Park, you taught us good. ❤️

"Mental health is health. Let's start doing that (things we do when we have a physical ailment,) let's start doing with your mental status. Do a little check in, say 'My body feels fine, my brain actually doesn't'. 'Do I need to take it easy?' 'Do I need to take medication?' 'Do I need to see a specialist?' Thank you Mike for these important words. I took notes and I'll ask myself and ppl around me when mentally not feeling good.

As soon as Mike said Avicii... I knew where he was going with it. Both Linkin Park & Avicii meant something to me in different parts of my life. I remember people... not just on the internet, but IRL, who said exactly what Mike said. I'm so proud of the positivity that has come from fans of both these artists. Never give that up.

A year has passed and all these interviews made me realise some phrases like "losing a friend" or some songs like 'In The End', seem to have become my trigger points. I'm kinda surprised that a person like me who is usually unaffected by death seemed to be deeply scarred by the death of someone who basically never knew I ever existed. Your voice will be missed, Chester.

Amazing interview and great to hear Mike talk about it so openly. The hardest thing about Chester's death for me personally was that it wasn't just the death of one of the most amazing singers of rock, it was the death of an ideology for me. I'm a musician myself (classical) and it was absolutely amazing at how he had turned so many negative emotions and events into something so gorgeous and energetic. It gave me faith that it is possible to overcome anything with music. That faith died for me on that day. Rebuilding that has been hard but Mike has helped so much by showing that he was able to get back on his feet with music even though he had been impacted on a much larger scale. Keep going and being an inspiration to the world!

I believe, a reason Chester's death hit so hard is because when LP came out, the generation who would normalize going to therapy and being open about the struggle were angsty teenagers. I know many and I am myself a person who had severe mental health issues during Hybrid Theory and Meteora and the music and lyrics were like a lifesaver.
@Kristalaurene

@starlamoon286

I know this comment is a few years old but I would have to agree. LP came out when I was a young teen and their music resonated with me immediately for reasons I understand more now that I am an adult and can look back at my life. I relate to Chester in a lot of ways. Some of my childhood traumas were similar. I think that sadly, a lot of people can relate to that. Even though the 90s were progressive, it was still a very problematic time for people with mental health issues. We really didn't talk about it like we do now. As weird as it is to say, I accidentally found out I am distantly related to Chester through his mom. I'm into genealogy and a relative told me that someone I know sort of looks like him and joked that maybe they are related. It was silly but I was like...idk sometimes people have celebrity family trees online (which sounds creepy, to be honest and I felt a little weird looking into it but I'm a curious person). Well, I ended up noticing we share ancestors from the 1800s, IF it's accurate. Of course, I never knew him personally but that just made me more sad to think he could have been a relative I never knew and lost. I see him as a beacon of strength and vulnerability and he showed that through his voice. I wished someone could have really been there for him when he was young and told him it was okay to talk about the things the were happening to him. Holding onto all that is never good for anyone but I also know the world enough to know it doesn't always feel safe. Even now, when we get told we need to reach out, it's also understood that there are people who are still going to be cruel and unhelpful. It SHOULD be okay and it's sad that for many people, it isn't. Everyone needs therapy sometimes and we need to work on making it more accessible and affordable. Removing the stigma is important but the support needs to be more readily available.

I listened to the album a few times now and I love how it starts off very depressing, but together with Mike you process these feelings and end up feeling better near the end. The ending is very bittersweet and brought a smile to my face. This guy is the best, and his optimistic view on life is contageous

It must be so hard to go on and make new music after having a band mate like Chester who owned a room or was so outspoken in interviews and animated..just pure truth..he was family for Mike really, and to suddenly be the only focus and singer. After having gone through what Mike did and so many ppl have, it's quite good to hear him be so careful in talking about Chester to at once bring support through suicide and or as Mike says suicide contagion. Cos God forbid we can't express ourselves...talk about Chester, Chris, Avicii at all anymore not to incite contagion. So thank you Mike for saying those things and confirming what is the right thing to do in such a situation. Crossing the line is absolutely..wow!! Can't quite put into words, one can only imagine what that song must mean to you personally. It's a wonderful thing to stay True and Free to oneself and not be owned.. but I take that from Mike.

By far the best interview, from the perspective of someone recovering from the loss of someone, because of suicide. I still think the sudden losses of highprofile people, due to suicide, are still shrouded in secrecy and shame...which really doesn't help the people being effected with suicidal tendencies. We need to make this a conversation, that people take seriously. Peoples inability to cope with stress and depression is a big part of why this is an epidemic. We need to talk about the causes, and offer support. Vinnie Paul just died, and Delores O'riordan death was never confirmed as a suicide. Like Mike said, we don't have to know every detail...but to stop hiding it, would be a good start.

wow, such a great interview.....subscribed. thank you. I can't believe it has been almost been a year since Chester. I love the new CD i got the deluxe edition. Many people, including myself, have gone through the loss of close family and friends and this album is so relatable and personal. The first time I heard some of the songs it is hard to not get emotional because I have gone through those same emotions and thoughts.

I know this is an old interview, but I've been back on a LP kick, and I can't watch anything with Chester without tearing up. I saw LP's music, and Chester, as a beacon of hope for myself, and people like me, who have suffered through depression our entire lives. When Mike says LP's fans were devastated, I think it's because a lot of them are much like me. My first thought when it happened was "but, Chester made it through?!". I think for me to know the battle was still very real, hit hard. It made you realize if it can happen to Chester, it can happen to any of us at anytime. Still devastated.

This is exactly how I felt. Chester was a beacon of light for me. For years I pulled through because of him, because of his voice, his music, his strength, and I'd keep telling myself "He made it, he's feeling all these things but he made it, so you can too." And then he was gone. I spent hours sitting on a park bench that day listening to their music and crying my eyes out because I didn't trust myself being at home alone.

I fricken love Mike and Chester. It has been my experience that when people approach you to console you over a sadness, it is not just because they are worried about your pain. They themselves are actually hurting too. If you are open, this is an opportunity to help "them" heal. If they can just share a moment with you about it, get an input from you and or feel as though they have helped you heal some (true or not) it will actually end up helping them and you. It is a very selfless thing to do. 1 could say noble. You might want to be alone in your pain but they apparently do not. They need you. They need to know you are ok then they can be also. 💜💜

Mike, it's great for you to move on. You love music and it's hard for you to listen to the old ones. Writing new ones is one way to release yourself. You're so strong and don't be afraid to do what you like and want to. We are with you forever.
