do the crime do the time. so i agree and i balance that with the adage an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. i don't the equilibrium point so i will suggest that we are dammed if we do and dammed if we don't or we can chose to disagree on how to settle some kind of justice. unfortunately there is no fix of a cut so deep. but what can we do to heal and maybe prevent it from happening again. i will admit that i am clueless without a good solution. and i do not know what would be good enough. any ideas?

Even the judge! Once the case gets going, the jury determines guilt, but the judge says whether or not a case has enough merit to even be tried. That judge looked at the facts and chose to try the case. The judge listened to the detective admit he lied and didn't order a mistrial. The Police, the judge, AND the prosecution failed this man. If that isn't systemic racism, I don't know what is.

Systematic racism is THE MOST REAL THING ABOUT EVERYTHING. Right next to the institutional racism part. I'm so embarrassed sometimes by these feelings: looking how I do, knowing I've been given something extra I don't deserve, knowing what awful awful things happened to my fellow Americans who weren't blessed at birth with the same color skin [sarcasm] or history. Embarrassed. Angry. Sad. I guess the only choice is love, like he so eloquently said⁵

You do realize the same exact thing has happened to white people right? We have to stop with this exaggerating race issue. I believe racial bias is real and it’s in virtually every area of our society, and it’s a big reason that Black people are disproportionately harmed. It’s not the only reason by far, but it is a big reason, in my opinion. But when so many people in the black community believe this stuff virtually only happens to them then they alienate other people who know they’re not telling the truth plus the black community and others who support groups for police accountability don’t fully know how to tackle the issue among police because they keep on believing it’s all about race.

Justice systems anywhere in the world can be so unfair.

I’m glad these people are finally getting released but I am also tired of seeing this same story. They have had decades of their lives taken away maliciously and have given years of free labor to the penal system and that’s just not right. those who did this to them and got to live their lives freely don’t deserve an ounce of forgiveness. This trend is ridiculous and truly upsetting.

And even if you did you still are already older and you can’t get back the years they stole from you. Also most of the money will go to his lawyers and taxes so at the end of the day it’s best to do $150 mil so he gets to have at least $100 mil. Poor soul also probably has PTSD already or depression

@A child's Heart• the cops just walked up to a innocent black mother and her daughters at a Starbucks and made bogus accusations about them, and dragged them outta their vehicle. The WORST part is, the Police, Prosecutors and Judge that worked so hard to put this man in prison for 20 years don’t even say “My bad” and they’re not obligated to say it either or face any repercussions. The New York taxpayers will pay for this though if this man sues the City and PD to try and get some compensation back for the 20 years he lost.

Imagine the culture shock, how much the world has changed in these 19 years. This young man has a lot of adjusting to do! And the people who put him there dishonestly need to pay the price.

What I want to know is how did the jury find him guilty after the detective admitted that he lied about the young man. Everyone that had a hand in this including the jury should be ashamed of themselves

It’s so interesting how they say “he needs a good cry” rather than using the entire segment to talk about accountability and preventing this from happening again.

It's no way he can get 19yrs back, he was in prison longer than he had been on earth at the time of his conviction. I hope he can get back to society but I know it's gong to be hard. 😢
