Subornation of Perjury - Penal Code Section 127 The crime of subornation of perjury occurs whenever a person solicits someone else to commit perjury. A person commits perjury when he knowingly and intentionally lies about a material fact in any legal proceeding.1

You would think. But consider this...if he (and others like him) do go to prison for their actions and recanting...then they would never come forward to confess and try to make it right. Quite a dilemma?

@Straight Blast did you even think that through? The result of putting him in prison for lying to police and putting an innocent man in prison for 28 yrs would be him and no one else lying in the first place. Not to mention there are already laws about lying to the police. Although in this case they didn't/wouldn't care cuz they got a "perp" and closed a case so they could pay themselves on the back.

He opposed Lamar's release on 'rules and technicalities' for years. Kim Gardner was unable to get him a new trial and or any kind of a hearing to hear his case prior to 2021 because there was no law that said prosecutors could try and vacate convictions of inmates they believed were wrongfully convicted. That changed in the summer of 2021 when state legislation passed a bill allowing the prosecuting attorneys to help innocent inmates get their day in court. Kevin Strickland was the first to benefit in November 2021, he was freed after 43 years in prison. Lamar was freed over a year ago.

Lie detector tests aren't credible, they're only props for certain police interrogation tactics. He never should've been convicted in the first place. Even with a lying eyewitness, that wasn't grounds for guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Justice was failed by the police, by the witness, by the prosecution, by the judge, and by the jury

Welcome back to the rest of the world, Lamar Johnson! There are no words to explain this travesty of justice. Innocence projects should be supported, folks!

This is so sad. This man should be compensated, even though there's no amount of money that can ever give him back what he's lost and his family.

It took that man 28,30, years to admit he lied? He needs to be behind bars. That’s 28 years of that man’s life. He got to live out his 28 years.

What a lovely dignified man, devoid of bitterness. I can only wish him all the very best for the future. He deserves it so much.

I hope he sues the state for locking him up for a crime he didn’t commit. I hope he can go on and make a life for himself now that he is free. Hope he gets a huge payment for false imprisonment. What state was he imprisoned in all this time. I hope he gets to live free and the state has to pay damages. Good luck, man, you deserve to be free and happy.
