Advances in technology are changing the way we understand brain activity and diagnosing potentially deadly mental health disorders. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S., according to the CDC. As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Nikki Battiste shows us how researchers are using brain scans to spot harmful thoughts.

I think it's invading of privacy. Like really, being able to tell what topic a person is thinking about? People can't stop their thoughts so you just have to hope that you won't think about the wrong things at the wrong time.

I think it’s a really good thing for people who live in toxic families who neglect their words and feelings and for those who don’t admit their problems. For example I think it’s a way more invasive to talk about my thoughts deeply to somebody. It’s also a good thing to discover if the person is acting or not. It’s not like everyone has to go under this scan, only those who seem depressed have to. It’s not a invasion of privacy compared to the usual test,it’s better for both the patient and the psychiatrist.

Wonder if they took into consideration the sub groups who may have already experienced a Loved one or person they knew having had committed. A person might be more inclined to think about committing suicide, or just the topic, due to a suicide that already occurred. But there definitely might be some people out there who are not suicidal but have experienced a suicide from someone they knew whether close to them or not. And we wouldn't want to misinterpret the person thinking of their loved ones or acquaintances suicide into thinking it was truly about oneself. Even self- guilt can come from a person they know comitting suicide, and that could perhaps set off the self awareness neuron center as well as this other neuron center that is said to be related to suicide. But good study! It's wonderful to put these relations of neuron activity together to interpret them!

I am curious of what if brain waves interpreted as image. And as a person who has an experience in Tile Molester (you can open anything as image, it's a tool to rip game sprites), I wonder if the brain waves has something similar to computer files if it interpreted as image. And because brain is literally a computer, then the vision part and the imaginary part could be seen using image interpretation

By the time someone is actively suicidal it’s too late… what we should be doing is preventing people from feeling that level of suffering and hopelessness even to begin with in the first place (housing security, birth control, community, healthcare, etc). Forcing someone who doesn’t want to be alive to continue living is just cruel…

Im really intreste if they tested it on poeple with genetic depression. But as well as people that don't know that they have genetic depression (like they don't know they have it at all) and although this seems morally wrong and it would take a lot of chance to find poeple with genetic depression that don't know of it, I wonder that when they are tested they will also get a sense of confusion. And then, in a sense, its almost like there is 2 people there. One that is depressed and one that is finding out that it is depressed. Also for people with genetic depression (that know of it), is it different for them? Or maybe it's untracable becuase it's just the genetic startard. I don't really know this is just some theorys and thoughts. Please tell me waht you think!

Even if this technology gets better do you think it's going to help the poor who get turned away from treatments everyday? No...It's going to help rich people and famous people. Nothing can save the person who really has made up their mind unless you can develop drugs that really take all the misery away. I want to try Ketamine and I asked for it but my GP said that isn't an option when I know it is. I have to pay for it but I ain't got the money. I am sure it will be helpful when every antidepressant has either made me feel worse or doesn't work at all.

While I think this research shows promise, it does need a larger sample size to confirm it's results for the broader scientific and just- research community. Those of us who have learned about methodology know that large population studies are needed to really confirm results- But, I think there's cause for optimism with these results-still, needs bigger studies.

The United States conducted these studies via the use of Automated Neuropsychological Assessment Metrics (ANAM) and many members impulsively completed the testing denying these individuals the results they were looking for. I do believe this is why a good number of service members have committed suicide… etc due to social engineering and the provoking of actions to cause the reactions from the service members. Whether it be limited funding, harsh treatment by co-workers, and/or lack of help or empathy when seeking help from the targeted attacks of the limited funding or treatment of the individuals staging the social engineered study. We can identify the perpetrators by reviewing the service members who have committed suicide… etc.. and link the service members data to the testing and why they were possibly targeted for the study conducted by these cruel #Nuremberg type studies. These types of studies are easily covered up when dealing with the service member because the perpetrators are able to easily blame the actions of the service member on some type of mental status.. I.e. PTSD… The other side of the covering is calling it testing for the study of Traumatic Brain Injury. When in fact, their mental status is usually socially engineered to provoke the action so the scientists can verify whether or not the criminal behavior can be predicted. Even when I conducted the Brain 🧠 scan, by order of the doctor, I thought of every thought possible and as if I were moving everybody part without moving which could possibly show extremely high brain activity when conducting the imaging to deny them any actual true data when conducting their studies. #HumanRightsViolations #humanrights

Dr. Marcel Just Since auditory signaling starts from our primary auditory cortex, and receives auditory information from the thalamus would that also be the self talking we all experience? If so, it doesn't seem far fetched to be able to listen on to anyone's self talk... basically allowing us to read your mind...and once our visual perception has been electrically decoded as our self talk I imagine then with the right instrumentation we would also be able to see what you see, the quest would be the creative and intellectual thought process that would be detected by instrumentation as seen here in its infancy... hahaha....wanna dance 🩰 What would be fascinating in this line of research would be I myself to engage my stem cells and others on corrections on any Cancer or ailments I might be experiencing... extrapolated further would we be able to occupy a brain grown from a brain farm without the cognitive ability until populated by our perceived state of consciousness leading some for a quest of immortality???
