I toured this distillery in the early 90s with my young children. It was prior to the creation of the Buffalo Trace brand and it was named the Ancient Age Distillery. We were the only group on the tour. They told us that most of its product was being sold to Japan as bourbon was very much out of favor with most Americans at that time. We got to watch Blanton’s being lovingly sealed, labeled and packaged by a team of friendly ladies. A great memory from a very different time for the industry.

I wondered if they were going to give the definition of a Buffalo Trace. Typical modern journalism. They didn’t. For anyone who would like to know, the Buffalo Trace was like a highway made by Buffalo as they travelled from the Grasslands of the plains to the Falls of the Ohio River. The Shallowest spot where they crossed from Indiana into Kentucky. The Trace was used for Hundreds of years by the Natives, then later by the early settlers, who undoubtedly visited the mineral licks along the route. I only drink once or twice a month these days, and my Bartender Generally pours me the Trace. I tell him I’ll have “Bartender’s Choice”. Cheers.

My 5th Great Grandfather came down the Buffalo Trace to the banks of the Kentucky River (July 16, 1773). A historical marker commemorates his journey and is located on the grounds of the Distillery. His name was honored by the Distillery when they added it to the Benchmark label over 30 years ago (McAfee's Benchmark Bourbon).

@@louisvilledave WOW! That’s amazing! My family is from Indiana. I kinda gave up on tracing the Ancestry because my Dad’s Dad Jake apparently changed identities somewhere along the line. Apparently he and his brother were involved in they disappearance of someone who “Needed disappearin’ “. Thanks for sharing.

Those living close by can take advantage of their daily gift shop 'special:' They rotate Eagle Rare, Taylor Small Batch, Blanton's and Weller Special Reserve. They list the special each morning online. Get there early though, especially for the Taylor and Blanton's which are usually gone within an hour.

Yall see it beacsue it's an allocated bottle. Just because you see it dosent mean it's not allocated. Ive seen people post pics of it on the shelf, 40 bottles at sub 30 bucks. Other states haven't seen it in years, and some people see it marked up to over 70 a bottle.

Except you can’t find their products hardly at all and when you do the prices have gone up so high it is not worth it. I’m not cheap but when a bottle of Henry McKenna 10 year goes from $46 to $70 at a Total Wine this is ridiculous. A bottle of EH Taylor generally sold for about $69 and now of you want it you have to get it from and individual seller at $129. Sadly, these guys are pricing and distributing themselves right out of business. Many new distilleries more local are producing very good product to compete and their price point certainly puts a consumer like me in a place I’d rather support local. Wish you the best BT but you got problems…

Read about the Sardinia blue zone, they drink alcohol like normal human beings and live to 100 years old about 10 times more than the US. Prohibition in the 1920s likely caused more problems, from Puritan idiots giving more power to the mafia crime bosses.
