Inside Wire runs just like any other radio station, except for the fact that the hosts are inmates in prison. CBS News correspondent Nancy Chen visited the first-of-its-kind radio program in Limon, Colorado, to learn about the people behind the mic, how the program is making history with an impact that's extending well beyond the prison walls.
Each weekday morning, "CBS Mornings” co-hosts Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson bring you the latest breaking news, smart conversation and in-depth feature reporting. "CBS Mornings" airs weekdays at 7 a.m. on CBS and stream it at 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

As the receiver of several crimes and the family of a criminal, this is a wonderful step. It gives a motivation for fellow inmates to rehabilitate and try. I get nothing ultimately from seeing people who've hurt me, sitting in a jail cell and doing nothing. That doesn't take back the pain that happened but this can at least make up for some of it by having them put their labor and time to make better people. If something even slightly prevents someone from reoffending, I'm for it.

I listened to the inagural broadcast on their website. Unbelievable. Just.....unbelievable. Having been to prison and knowing what it is like to feel cut off from the world, this is some of the most incredible and innovative stuff I have ever heard. This story NEEDS to be spread worldwide! You have a listener for life!

@@24james negative bud, the TIME lost is the punishment, treatment while you are in is NOT supposed to be the punishment. Thats how we end up with literal monsters that get put back out into society instead of it being a chance for them to rehabilitate (referring to ones that are in for crimes where rehabilitation is equitable)

I think they deserve the “luxury” and I say this because the ones that are aloud to be involved in these “luxuries” are good inmates. They have to follow the rules to be involved. So this keeps them on track.

You hear that, 95% returning back to society...we should 1000% be focusing on imprisonment being rehabilitative, if you want a better society of course. Obviously there are things that if fixed early on with our youth can prevent lives of crime, but for when its too late and mistakes are made, rehabilitation is a must

Pretty clever idea. Being stuck in prison is torture as it is. Not being able to be I the outside world must be terrible and while many deserve to be in prison doesn’t mean that antagonizing much further is worth it. Better to let people get some new perspectives while behind bars then to make them even more dysfunctional and unable to adapt to regular life.

This is a good thing. Positive, very productive, and rehabilitative. Jail and prison should be about rehabilitation not just punishment. Especially, if the inmate will be returning back to society after completing his/her sentence or have the possibility of getting parole.

They need to do the same with youth in foster care that are living in facilities. We were subject to strip searches etc " no we didn't commit crimes" if they think you'll run away etc you can end up there or simply if they don't have enough foster homes. Anyways yea strip searched, made to wear flipflops not shoes so we wouldn't run away, and no cell phones, only computers when at school. So I find it odd that prisoners get what even kids don't have. I'm not hating I'm just saying these states really need to re-evaluate and be fair, because it's not making sense to me.

What they are doing is rehabilitation. You should look up prisons in Europe, particularly in Germany and Denmark. Programs such as this have a proven track record in that they work in reducing recidivism. This is not new. America is behind the curve here.
