South Carolina got the biggest screwjob of the decade thanks to the officials in the LSU game...now it's the Playoffs Committee that gives it the final twist of the knife. As Brad CRawford said, Louisville beats Clemson and jumps from unranked to #16! That's 10 spots at the very least. South Carolina beats Clemson IN Clemson when both teams are literally playing for the CFP and SC gets moved up a single spot! Everybody was saying this was a "PLAY-IN" game but we found out that it didn't matter one iota if SC won or lost. However, if Clemson had won they probably would have moved up higher and would have been included even if they lost the ACC Championship game. No idea what the CFP has against South Carolina and its devoted fanbase.

This logic is flawed for one simple reason. Mathematics. When there is a larger sample size of games played then a single game will always have a smaller impact on the deviations. You will always see larger swings earlier when the sample size is small and gradually smaller swings as the season goes on.

Head to head didn’t count when Tennessee had it against Alabama in 2022 yet finished behind Alabama in the final rankings with the same record. Tennessee this year had to win their last game and would not have gotten in with a loss which would have resulted in the same record and Tennessee owning the head to head. Head to head only counts when Alabama owns it. SC got screwed. The Ole Miss loss to Florida is not nearly as horrible as Bama scoring only 3 points at Oklahoma.

The committee has been bad to Alabama when they were the better team. South Carolina shouldn't have lost the head-head match up against Alabama...and then they lost another head-head match up against Ole Miss. That right there are two Strikes. Sometimes the hottest teams don't make it or the committee just put who they want in the CFP. In 2022 the committee chose OSU over Alabama to get into the CFP which Alabama was the better team, And Alabama's strength of schedule was harder than OSU. This guy says PennState is head and shoulders better than NotreDame. I don't agree. Yes NotreDame had a much worse loss but PennState has zero top 25 wins. NotreDame did win by 10 at Texas A&M, beat Usc by 14 and never trailed in the game. PennState trailed the whole game against Usc and had to go to overtime to beat them. I can see people making the argument that PennState is better and would beat NotreDame on a neutral field but I don't agree their head and shoulders better. Also, the media hates NotreDame and wants them to lose and they are also judging NotreDame based off the last 30 years when they have gotten waxed in the big games. I say focus on this year. I have to disagree with Brad here. The one thought I had from this weeks ranking is that I think it has confirmed the ACC is limited to one team in the playoffs. This is based entirely on Clemson's ranking at 17 and Miami's ranking behind Alabama. The one wild card in the rankings that a lot of people have raised is what happens if Clemson wins. Does a 11-2 SMU stay in the playoffs thereby dropping Bama out? I think this weeks rankings give a pretty good indication that the answer to that question is no. If Clemson wins, what would be their ranking next week? As a three loss team, could they actually be given a top 10 ranking? That would presumably a necessary step for SMU to be considered for a spot. Ranking Clemson at 10 would mean that they would have to leapfrog 1. SMU (currently 8, but presumably would drop behind Clemson if they lose); 2. Alabama (11); 3. Miami (12); 4. Ole Miss (13); 5. South Carolina (14) who beat them at Clemson this week); 6. Arizona State (15) who is playing in the Big 12 championship; and 7. Iowa State who is the second team in the Big 12 championship. I don't think this is realistic. A win over #8 SMU realistically might raise them a few slots at best. Yes they go above SMU and the B12 loser. Maybe, they climb over Miami. But, with South Carolina ranked at 14, can they legitimately rise above them? And since none of these SEC teams are playing next week, Clemson is not rising to 10. In other words, a three loss Clemson team is not going to automatically move into SMU's spot. I think it is far more likely that Clemson would actually end up as the lowest rated conference champ behind the B12 champion. If this occurs, what happens to SMU? The committee would have to keep them in the top 12 and rank the loser of the ACC championship higher than the champion? That seems unlikely. It is far more likey that SMU drops below Clemson, and therefore out of the playoffs.

I really don't like the logic behind the idea that when you have your wins and losses don't matter. By that logic it wouldn't matter if you had all your wins at the beginning or at the end. If Alabama started 9-0, then had 3 back to back losses against Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, would the committee still have them at 11? Hard to say.

I know it will never happen, but I wish they would eliminate overtime. I don't think ties should count on wins. Make the favored team earn the win. It would make games more exciting to see teams needing to go for two to win rather than kicking an extra point for overtime

The Bama glazing is wild. 2 losses to .500 teams, one of which was a 24-3 drubbing. The committee is consistent on head to head wins which is fair, but they cannot answer for losses at all. People are being wishy washy on Ohio State’s Indiana win too. Now that they have a bad loss to Michigan at home now the Indy win is a good win? Is Indiana good or not? It seems to conveniently change. I’m just saying this CFP is a bigger mess now lol

This will happen every year. You entrusted the committee with the powers to determine who is in and out, yet you have your own in and out, which doesn't matter. Scrutiny, criticism, and discussions are healthy. Looking at the playoff matches, 16 teams can easily be accommodated as per schedule if the complexity is removed.

You know who else has no ranked wins: Texas, ND, Indiana, and Boise St. all currently in the top 10! And the committee is putting in all these avg teams 15-25, to help with the narrative for some of these schools with top 25 wins. Miz and Ill are in the top 25 with 3 losses, why not Duke? Use the same logic, if you are going to exclude SMU, you better be consistent with your logic to the other schools here. AND SMU does not have any bad losses, like ND and Bama.
