Fairly decent chance it happens with Georgia. I can't imagine the committee would put in Miami, SMU, and Clemson in a scenario where Miami is the ACC champ, SMU loses in the title game, and Clemson doesn't make the title game. Arkansas lost to 0-8 big 12 ok st. LSU lost to a crappy USC team. Auburn lost to a bad Cal team. Texas AM lost to Notre Dame. Mississippi st lost to Arizona st. The SEC is not far superior. Because THEY were the ones who made the mistakes. Part of being a great team is not making mistakes that make a competitive game a blowout. So here's my take on the situation. #1 - If Indiana at 11-1 can't get in, trash the whole system and call the season over. #2 - The committee MUST define if not for anyone else, the coaches as to what they're basing their seedings on, what foundation are they laying from which to build the 12 team playoff so that everyone is aware of just how or why their team is in or out, up or down and what elements of the season are they placing the most stock on. #3 - The committee MUST also factor in the atrocious officiating across the ENTIRE country throughout the year and how each game's outcome was affected as this year's blown calls, lack of calls, and failure to maintain control of the games has reached an all-time high. #4 - Explain WTF the "eye test" is and how it applies to each team and whether or not this is just a way to disguise "brand bias." #5 - If we're talking about teams that are playing at an elite level AT THIS MOMENT, then South Carolina would be a team that certainly deserves a look, as does SMU, Boise St. and ASU #6 - Notre Dame not being in a conference is ridiculous and the absurdity of their two best wins being a 3 loss Texas A&M and #19 Army coupled with the fact they have the worst loss in the country at home to N. Illinois, a terrible SOS, and ranking them in the top 6 is a slap in the face to every other team in every conference. The way they're allowed to just walk into the playoffs without the added pressure of having to earn their way in is not fair in any scenario. That being said, Notre Dame will most likely be 11-1 and most definitely deserves to be in the playoffs. #7 - I don't personally see a clear-cut favorite. Oregon has been vulnerable but remains unbeaten and therefore deserves to be where they are. I think it's exciting for everyone this year so far and if one thing is reliable it's the fact that nothing is for sure as these playoff seeds change every week. Enjoy the ride people!!

GT, (which Georgia has coming!) YET, (with a STATISTICALLY weaker schedule!) and with MULTIPLE BAD LOSSES….the SEC STILL has people and “experts” trying to find a way to keep them (Missouri) ranked and get them (Bama) into the playoff. Plus ND has no control over how other teams perform. FSU and USC not panning out or Miami choosing to remove ND this year is NOT ND’s problem. @BigMonty686 Thank you. My thinking has been that Notre Dame should have to join a conference to go through the same gauntlet (regardless of conference) as everyone else. When looking at my reasons why, they've been one-sided. I've been looking at it from the standpoint that if Notre Dame played a conference championship and lost, they'd stand the chance of being eliminated from the CFP. That's partly true. However, UGA is in a very real situation where Rivalry Week presents us with a short week vs a GT team that's extremely capable of handing us our 3rd loss. If that happens, we don't deserve to be in, however we have another bite at the apple with the SEC Championship game. Now if Notre Dame somehow loses to USC, it's out of the Irish's hands and they don't have the same bite at the apple so the added pressure is already on Notre Dame to win. As I said to someone else about the SOS argument, it's only applicable if you win the games on your schedule and we have not. Now we do have wins over currently ranked #3 Texas, #7 Tennessee and #12 Clemson. We also have 2 losses to #13 Bama and #15 Ole Miss. So now I'm happy to say that you have helped me see things in a different light. I never thought about the “being in a conference could conceivably give ND a 2nd chance.” should something go sideways. A 2 loss season would definitely have ND “hoping for chaos”. A conference affiliation would give them (potentially) more opportunities moving forward. The only hurdle being, like other schools…football is “the money maker”. PLUS ND , only having roughly 9k students…can “get by” AND have more autonomy OUTSIDE of sports to make decisions they couldn’t, being in a conference. I THINK the majority of the administration is (and has been!) willing to take the risk. They know ND will always have critics for their rigidity. However, if they have a team worthy of a shot at a championship. They’ll find a way in and still hafto do what everyone else will. Win multiple games. There’s nowhere to hide in this type of playoff format. Unless, college football “forces them”, (which I don’t see and could potentially be a legal issue if they tried.) this might be it for the foreseeable future.
