Meniers is a strange disease. It is often accompanied w debilitating vertigo. Often times there are fake noises that the ear is always hearing, like crunching leaves. So he doesn't have typical deafness. It often sounds like trying to hear through a broken speaker. So even if there is no actual hearing loss, the other sounds drown out what he can hear. But there are days, weeks...that the noises subside. Those are the days that he should take full advantage of, and go out and listen to everything he usually misses. Cutting the audio nerve is a potential cure for the maddening noise, but it will guarantee true deafness and may not eliminate the noise. People have become suicidal when it is really bad.

I have Meniere's Disease, diagnosed about 8 years ago. Took the hearing in my right ear. The vertigo sucks because of the unpredictable nature of it. Here's the really fun part...it's 'believed to be' an autoimmune disorder. Auto immune diseases love the buddy system and now I have two. I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis ( _another_ rare autoimmune disease) 6 years ago. Lightning can strike twice. And, I wasn't even going 88 mph at the time. Go figure. Moral of this story? You never know how much crap you can learn to live with, until you live though it. I love Huey Lewis, and I wish my fellow rare disease buddy nothing but good things in his life and stabilization of his hearing and balance.

I was a fan of their music because where I was employed at the time, we played FM radio music, while we worked. I was in my late 20s & early 30s when Huey Lewis was getting a lot of air time on the radio. Though at home, my musical interests via record albums & cassettes was Blues & Jazz saxophone, like David Sanborn, & Eddie Harris. I'd played "harp" (as in harmonica), in high school friend's bands,...and had an extensive blues harp album collection, too. Huey is as good a harp player, as any. I really dug that aspect of their music. ____Huey,....wishing you better days ahead.

I've had Meniere's for over 25 years. It took me out of work and into early retirement. It's a very debilitating condition. I've lost a great deal of my hearing. The ringing is constant. The vertigo is episodic. It can fluctuate from mild to severe. Each day is different and you can never tell. There is no warning before an episode. Some days are so bad I'm spinning out of control and vomiting... can't even get out of bed. Thank goodness it's lessened somewhat over time. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I know what you go through Huey!

I'm sorry for what you're going through and I understand. I have tinnitus ringing all the time, but what's worse is that I have lymphedema which swells up your body because the lymphatic system isn't working. Things we never heard of before a diagnosis runs our everyday lives now. Take care.

I used to be a renegade. I used to mess around... Huey Lewis’ music takes me back to my childhood, and always sparks a great emotion when I hear that band! He’ll have some time off now... but Huey will take that talent and character with him beyond this mortal coil. That’s the power of love.

Love these guys. Saw them in concert while in high school. Got one of Bill's drumsticks and two picks. I still have these three items and my ticket stub. The friend I went with got two picks as well and one of the towels they wiped the sweat from their face with. I'm not sure whose towel it was.

My sister and I grew up on Huey Lewis and the News. Now turning 50 this year I experienced something similar. I had a concussion from a freak accident, which caused bi-lateral tinnitus, ear pain, hearing loss, and occasional headaches. For now, 8 months into recovery nothing has improved. My doctor told me this was my reality for the rest of my life. Initially, it about drove me insane from discomfort; later causing depression knowing there was no known cure. I'm not a professional musician, but I play piano, write music, and love music in general; therefore constantly exploring every genre. Sadly, the tone of music often hurts my ears and sometimes I can't hear it completely from loss and the high pitch of the tinnitus (which btw sounds like the sound a bright light bulb or fluorescent makes...I often refer to it as the sound of silence) covers over what I might hear. I am also starting to lose my eye sight due to idiopathic block of both retinas. I sound like a mess. LOL But I can sympathize with him and empathize. Nothing is ever really the same. It's like losing a limb; only no one sees that you lost it. I send him hope and acceptance; and some more hope. He's still a cool dude to me and his music is etched into my memories. Thank you.

First album I ever owned was "Sports". I played the heck out of that album. I saw Huey in concert many times here in Pittsburgh. Absolutely loved them. When people ask me what's my favorite live concert, I always answer Huey Lewis and the News. Always did a great show and they had so may hits, there was never a song I DIDN'T know. Great memories. If only we could go "Back in Time".
