CBS Sunday Morning

Күн бұрын

The Public Broadcasting Service is marking fifty years of broadcasting, during which the consortium of public TV stations has not only served up award-winning dramas, documentaries and children's programming, but also opened an underserved broadcast market to the outside world. Correspondent Martha Teichner looks at how PBS has changed the lives of viewers and filmmakers in its first half-century, and the fundraising drives that are critical to its survival.

@@justinbowen2509 Of course that’s why lol 😆 Could also be saying that, because of agent orange’s remarks at News Hour’s WH journalist. As for most reporters it jumps down their throats for asking questions about its statements. Unfortunately for Yamish (?) she did just that! Quoted its remarks/statement from earlier that day, and asked her question. Ao told her in the normal condescendingly loud voice, “That was a nasty question! How could you even ask that? “. PBS changed my life too. Growing up as a poor young black girl on the South Side of Chicago, PBS allowed me to see beyond my neighborhood... Sesame Street, Dr. Who, Monty Python, Upstairs Downstairs, Masterpiece Theater, Alistair Cooke's America... were all part of my life before the age of 10... by 13 yrs old, I was taking classes at the University of Chicago... the original distance learning... I can't seem to find the credits on this post. Is the narrator, Phyllis Rosenblatt? I listened to this post and wondered for a few minutes, why am I recognizing that voice? Then I remembered her voice from my favorite Nevada Barr audio novels... he narration is the best of all of the many books I've listened too!

PBS should never be defunded because of the iconic legacies of Julia Childs, Fred Rogers, Bob Ross, Lavar Burton and Reading Rainbow, Ken Burns, Sesame Street, Electric Company, Zoom, Master Piece Theater, McNeil/Leher, Arthur, American Masters, Justin Wilson, America's Test Kitchen, PBS News Hour, This Old House, etc. Too many to mention. We wouldn't know who we are or what to do with our lives without these well meaning programs..

I grew up watching PBS KIDS shows, as well as Nature and NOVA, and many other nature-themed shows! They should also do a PBS KIDS throwback channel featuring classics like Dragon Tales, Between the Lions, Reading Rainbow, Bookworm Bunch, It’s a Big Big World, and more!

I love PBS, grew up on with it and still watch it today. especially the news because it just reports the news and it doesn't feel like click bait journism. Of course certain American politicians want to stop funding to PBS. Republicans want to keep the electorate, especially those that are poor, isolated and in the dark.

The one thing I really miss about streaming tv is PBS. 😢 With cable, I had I think 4 or 5 PBS stations to choose from. The biggest loss due to a smaller budget.

Things are different than when I was a child of the 1970s and 1980s. Things are done on behalf of the corporate interest and not for the public interest, and children of today will suffer for it.

Too expensive. CNBC was producing it the last couple of years. It pretty much had the same segments.

Thank goodness for PBS, they need to expand more, for those people who got nothing, like internet, no cellphone signal, cable or even other local networks..imagine living like that...Congress need to return cartoon shows to local networks, poor kids can't afford netflix or cable.

Shame they have to beg for money. In the UK the vast majority are happy to pay for a "TV license" of less than a $1 a day, and not have to see all that begging, as well as great shows on the BBC like Doctor Who and David Attenborough documentaries!

I'm from the UK and this is nonsense, with all due respect. The TV licence is quite controversial here; look up the movement, "Defund the BBC" which is gaining momentum. The licence has also attracted some controversy over harassing old people. I would not say it's true to say the fee is uncontroversial.
