The video was captured on a Sony Handycam DCR-HC21. It's your basic run of the mill small, inexpensive digital camcorder. Nothing fancy. Mounting the camera backwards and out of the wind made the sound come out good with no wind buffeting. On a forward facing mount the same quallity sound can be achieved just by keeping out of the wind. Sometimes a little trial and error is all that is necessary. Glad you liked the video!

My first ever ride on a motorcycle was on a 1979 CBX back in 1986. My friend picked it up for $1200. Unfortunately he sold it the next year to buy a CBR600F hurricane that came out the year after.

The CBX does sound like a F1 racer, I have an '82 that I'm just getting spiffed up since it spent 5 years in the garage. I'm thinking of putting one of Tim's CBX alternators on it, but we'll see.

This bike sounds absolutely incredible - I never get tired of hearing this clip. If BMW builds their new 6 cylinder bike in a more sporting form, they would do well to try and match the sound that you've achieved with your CBX. Well done, sir. Well done indeed.

With todays technology, fuel injection et all. Honda could ..... Should remake this fantastic machine. Shorter stroke, wider piston, about 15-18000 rev limit. I thinking 190-200 plus horse power and the modern forks and suspension. It would work, I know it would. OH GOD ... I JUST GOT A FUNNY FEELING DOWN MY LEG. :)

Thanks for your detailed reply. I remember seeing a Moto-Martin turbo CBX back in about ah I'd guess 1980, though that may be off. Anyway the sound was incredible, but this is even better. Probably the best sounding bike I have ever heard. Kudos.

The exhaust is custom made. It started out as a set of Mac headers, shortened with new 3 -1 collectors, a mandrel benders kit of 1.75 tubing, fabbed into an undertail arrangement with 2007 GSXR canisters by Two Brothers. I used to ride one in the mid 80`s in the U.K Bath area ,and someone else had a cbx trike ,but i cant remember his name ,but we rode around the streets of Bath ,Keysham and bristol making loads of nice sounds !!! mine had a 6 into 1 marshall with drilled and cut baffell ,after hearing that sound again i think im going to get another one ? but tuned ? top video !!!

I have an '82 with K-cams, Mac headers and K&N's. I can tell you that as the bike approaches its 9500 redline it sounds like a GP Ferrari. I was waiting at a redlight the other day when a kid pulled up on a crotch rocket with his girlfriend/wife on the back next to me. I blipped the revs and it barked, they looked over and I'm sure he saw those 6 pipes sticking out the front, The light changed and they let me go, waiting a second or two. I think they wanted no part of a '82 CBX

Ahh I see. That makes sense. I know the Valkryie's flat six was from the Goldwing, so that explains its cruiser roots. But I also have heard a Valkryie a few times. And while it doesnt quite scream like a CBX it does still sound very very good. Almost Porsche 911-like. I never considered the CBX to be much of a good handling bike though. Is it?

@kirkconway I can only hope I will be lucky enough to experience a CBX. Wouldn't a clean example be rather hard to find now? I have just got my motorcycle learners permit, and my friend has been letting me practice on his Ducati monster 697. I also love the Honda Valkyrie. I wonder if the CBX and the Valkyrie are at all similar?

BEAUTIFUL SOUND!!! What carbs and exhaust are you running on this bike? It sounds beautiful. I have heard quite a few CBX's with Keihin FCR 33's and whilst they do sound very nice, they don't sound as snorty and as viceral as the original carbs. The reason that I ask is that I am going to buy a CBX soon purely for the sound (I'm not kidding) and want to make the best sounding bike in the universe. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Racebred: They are a tad heavy on the steering. They are more light to light racers. Best handling bike I ever had was a Moto Guzzi V7 Sport. Never had a Ducati but they are supposed to be the best handlers.
