CCW Class - From Mom to Armed Mom

This week is the eighth in our series on the channel which we're calling From Mom to Armed Mom. In this week's video, Kayla sits down with Rodney to discuss what to expect from her CCW (Carrying a Concealed Weapon or Concealed Carry Weapon) Class, the Ohio Concealed Handgun License (CHL), and the sort of training involved. She then attended the class, taking a few short video clips from her vehicle on the day of her training. We finish the video with Kayla sitting down again with Rodney to discuss how it went.
We did re-enact the discussions from before the class, as the original discussions were not filmed. All portions following the class were the first time they had discussed the class since she attended.

Very well conducted presentation series. I'll pass it on to friends who plan on getting a firearm for personal protection. The NC CCW class curriculum mainly focuses on teaching the participants about the legal implications of using a firearm. Instilling the mindset of when the gun use is justified and when not is a major goal of the class. During my class a lot of discussion happened around the when is force justified. I personally decided to join the ACLDN to further understand the proper judgement when gun force is appropriate and to additionally get the legal coverage in the unfortunate case I have to use a gun. We also shot 30 rds from 3 distances and had to hit I think 80% during my class . If memory serves well, distances are 3, 5, and 7 yds.

My perspective is getting your license is intimidating at first but basically it’s not a challenge. I remember going over the test answers before taking the test and not having them score the paper. Really that is totally ok because that should only be the beginning.

My wife & I were never once mislead about the CC classes including actual training using a handgun as a weapon. They were clear it was mostly about carry laws and passing a very basic shooting test. I suppose someone new to handguns might presume there would be some handgun training included.
