It’s too bad there isn’t reciprocity. I lived and worked in and around San Francisco 1999 to 2020 and sadly never as far as Sonoma or Sacramento counties so no permit was possible. While I lived there I got a Utah non-resident permit good in 34 states and, as of January 1, 2020, Puerto Rico. Now I’m in Florida. Florida only recognizes resident permits so I have a Florida permit, too. My daily carry only holds 10 rounds in its mag so I could take it to Cali when I visit, but there’s no point.

It's true I can verify the info is correct. I know civilians including myself who have an la county ccw. I got mine in December 2020 and it took 90 days. The reason is because the Sheriff knows DA Gascon is garbage and crime is out of control. I was denied by local pd but sheriff approved it. Just articulate your good cause and they will approve it. Talk about crime rates, civil unrest, defunding of the police, and that you want to protect yourself and family from violent crime. I wrote a full page good cause. Approval rate is 50%.

Hey did you appeal it and go to LASD ? because I literally just got denied by Chief Michael Moore. I was assaulted with a gun by a guy that lives 3 blocks away from me 3 years ago and have recently been seeing him around since he was released from prison so I applied with LAPD for a CCW and Michael Moore said its been 3 years so there in no probable cause and that if i get assaulted again to contact police. Dam, in AZ all I did was take a 4hr class, fill out some paperwork and sent it in with a $60 money order. A month later I got my ccw in the mail. Did you know in Kaliforniastan, we have to go though a background check for buying ammo? Oh you want to go shoot this weekend and your local powpow store has ammo? You go ASK the store clerk to get your ammo since the Kaliforniastan govmint doesn't trust YOU to get your own, they give it to you and you check out at the register. They will run a background. If you have purchased a gun recently, your info SHOULD be good with the doj, so you might get away with only paying the dollar background "fee". If you aren't already in the system, they have to charge you $19 for the more thorough background. Get to your car and say "oh crap I forgot some 22 for my son's single shot rifle? Go in and start the process all over again. These "common senth gun laws" are so idiotic, but with the state being 66% liberal and most gun owners, even when they belong to a gun rights group not being actively engaged in protecting the 2nd amendment, The People's Banana Republic of Kaliforniastan is a lost cause.

Not LA county resident but I hold a Riverside county CCW. Here’s what got me mine: -Heavy construction equipment mechanic who works in shady areas at night with valuable equipment/tools -Gave them the good ol’ hiking/ camping/ off roading in remote areas spiel -Also told them I have sketchy neighbors If ya live in the riv I hope this helps. Also list as many reasons as possible because technically you’re not allowed to carry outside of the reasons listed. Probably won’t matter tho because RSD is the only agency that has access to your CCW information when running your info. Cheers 🍻

I applied back in 2018 or so. I got denied and appealed to their independent group to evaluate if I had “good cause.” They agreed that I had good cause but still denied. Glad things are changing!

I'm a caregiver and at one time I was driving around my partially-disabled mother to the bank once a week. I spent over $300 a few years ago applying and even taking a required CCW course before I applied. I took the course to show good faith and that I was serious about my right to bear arms. I was denied even though I've never had an infraction in the last 15 years or so. A few years later I had one major incident at home defending my partially-disabled mother where I almost shot 1 of four ex-con thugs from south central l.a. trying to do a home invasion. Then I had two minor incidents involving couples, one who hid on the side of the front door ready to jump whoever would have answered the door. I will never ask for permission if I need to defend my life or a family member's life. This socialist county will not dictate when and where I can defend and protect my life or a love one's. Life is too valuable to gamble it away to LE when you need them. It took the first sheriff 15 minutes (!) to arrive at my home during the first major incident. And I had been speaking to a sheriff on the phone (reporting suspicious activity) 1 minute before that major incident! What was their excuse for not arriving quicker??? Sheriff's station is 10 minutes away from my residence, and I live in the typical safe, Leave-It-to-Beaver neighborhood. LE is neither an enemy or a friend.

@@Baka94gaming I hesitate to negate but concur 99.9%. I have had a few good encounters with individual LEOs, especially Highway Patrol. They seem to be the best of LE compared to deputies. It's the system that's corrupt and it was actually worse decades ago. The 40s and 50s seemed to be the worst where more than a few well connected civilians could "purchase" LE enforcement badges just like CCWs. The first deputy that showed up and entered our home after the attempted home invasion behaved like an entitle POS, but the other deputy who spoke to us outside of our home was exactly the opposite. He reminded me of Andy Griffith. He was sympathetic to our needs but she could care less. She wondered why I didn't say anything to the thugs to prevent the incident🤦🏻‍♂️🙄

Then I got my CDL and ever since then I have come to the conclusion that cops are nothing but value squeezes. They will wring out every cent your worth to the state. @@Baka94gaming I'm sure we can trade stories about how corrupt LE is. LA has always been a hotbed of corruption even when the Spanish and then Mexicans ruled it. Most of my experiences were with the deputy sheriffs. Deputies and LAPD used to beat the hell out of 'undesirables' in the 50s without remorse. Some of those 'undesirables' were listed as suicides in jails after they found them hanging. To be fair, some of those that were hanged by LE were horrible humans but they were murdered. Interestingly, LA and its crooked officials have been celebrating human vermin since around the beginning of this century. Back in the mid 50s my grandfather's son-in-law's brother was a deputy or LAPD officer. He told him he loved to beat the hell out of blacks (probably used a derogatory term that was popular back then) even when they weren't doing anything wrong. That guy was pure evil but not atypical of LE at that time. My grandfather replied in disgust and later recognized the connection to the Watts Riots. That guy was part of the mob/mafia and I actually met that POS when I was younger. He "retired" in a very nice home in San Marino but he thankfully got what was coming to him.

After what happened in Atlanta, I as an Asian American have good reason to be scared. Even if the guy that committed the crime wasn’t racist, there are too many other incidents against Asian Americans specifically that occurred this year. I live in a state that is permissive about concealed carry, and I hope other states wake up and realize that the best way to prevent casualties is to let people defend themselves. You can’t stop a crime before it happens, some people just snap out of nowhere. It’s best to be prepared for if it does happen. People of California, I stand by you and your rights. Applied October 2023.. April 2024 scheduled for the interview. Interview was postponed until October 10 2024. I did my livescan in 2023. Interview was easy just asked a few questions. The next step application goes to a sergeant and then to the under sheriff for approval. The wait for the email for approval could take up to 8 weeks. Next step is the firearm class.

In my state, you fill out the application, pay $58 and do live scan prints. Then they mail you a laminated permit. When I did mine it took 11 days until it showed up in my mailbox

Reno; San Diego County Gun Owners website has an excellent video on the process of writing your good cause statement. Process here averages 10-12 months. I've heard as much as 15. I'm sure LA's different. Patience is key and your comment about being 100% truthful is absolutely correct. Good luck all!

California will never give reciprocity. They will definitely never give reciprocity to out of state permits given to ca residents as out of state permits in other states. They know people use these permits as a “loophole” to gain reciprocity in states they would not normally get it.

Really depends on the county here. Our sheriff literally tells every applicant in the interview to put two words "self protection" in the good cause box. He basically says as long as can listen to and follow that basic instruction, and pass the background check, he signs off on it.

A good point.. if anyone goes hiking in Angeles Nat'l Forest, Forest Service rangers say they find bodies dumped out there every year, as well as marijuana grow operations and other shady cartel stuff. It's actually a very dangerous place outside of established paths. Explaining that you're hiking frequently in remote areas of LA county specifically might be helpful.

Just to add: those applying with LAPD call to make an appointment now. They are backed up a couple of months. On advice from LASD, make your GC statement short and to the point for LAPD. You’ll explain yourself to LAPD and most likely get a denial. Lasd told me to wait for the denial letter and submit it to them. List the main points only on your GC statement and be prepared to back it up verbally. My appointment is in 3 weeks with LAPD Take it as a test run for LASD if you’re unfortunately under an LAPD service area. I should hopefully be g2g by summer.

@@sophondanielm7377 if you’re in LAPD jurisdiction yes. Call the gun unit. Number is on the LAPD site. If you’re in an incorporated city check and see if they have a MOU with LASD. ( method of understanding)

What about moving vehicle violations? I had one ticket over 7 years ago and the application is asking for any violations within the last five years. Should I mention that one and only ticket I had for good measure? The same applies for a car accident I was involved that was not my fault which happened nine years ago. Should I disclose that too?

I work in healthcare and during covid might be deployed to help out at vaccination sites, there was at least on instance recorded recently of a man getting violet at one of those sites and had to be subdued due to his stance on the vaccine. Could I use that as a good cause? Similar to administrative employees at the police department. And I might be handling valuable test kits, face masks, etc. that might be stolen to be sold on the black market.

They are trying to show the 9th district Supreme Court that its not that hard to get a CCW. For now get it while you can. Hope the Court will see though this and make the judgment in the 2nd Amendment favor.

The trend appears to be for more counties in California switching to a practical "shall issue" standard. Whether that will result in an eventual change in state law, who knows? Still encouraging, and hopefully as more people exercise their rights, they are able to convert more of the electorate into 2A-friendly thinking.
