If possible watch in 4K
In this video i am discussing benefits and applications of two, almost magical, materials, CDC and partridge.
Partridge is almost a staple among wet flies and nymphs, but in recent past CDC is fighting it's way through. Now, what are the differences of these two?
Watch the whole video to have an idea... Of course there is certainly more to it. People wrote books dedicated to CDC....
Bottom line is that you can get away by using one or the other... but lets see why to use one over the other....
Hope you liked this video and that it was useful to you.
Feel free to comment, like, share...
Stay safe
Cheers
Vladimir

It's hard to beat the mottling of partridge and other similar birds. I do a version of this with bobwhite quail as well. These flies look like they are alive under water. CDC is good for its ability to capture air bubbles and give off a brilliant light reflection. The wispiness is incredible. Overall, they both have a place in my box.

I used to use Hungarian partridge in the past. Now I mainly use CDC. I like the way the fly looks when it gets wet. The fish seem to agree with my taste in this matter. Thanks for your video. We're all learning lots from your experience and knowledge.

Thanks for watching. Seems you dont lack experience either. 😀 Cdc is my first choice almost always. However i prefer visual look of partridge.

Nice explanation and tying. Looks like a fly that would work well in my favourite fishing spot. I will make a few and fish it this week down-under in NZ. Thanks.

I think prefer the partridge version. I just like spare wet flies/nymphs. Anyway, they will both work well of course. :-)

Once again a great video 👏 Do you always use the whole partridge feather? I use half (babarbs on one side only). The hackle becomes looser and more alive.
@Oholisfliesandfishing
@Oholisfliesandfishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot. 🍺🍺 I use whole feather almost always. If i need less barbless i do less wraps. But i guess its more neat with stripped feather

I’m just starting to use the cdc on soft hackles. I’m not sure of how it catches but it defyhss more movement. Great lessons Vladimir. Good health and tight lines my friend.How small do you tie with jig hooks?

Thanks so much. You will definitely be happy with cdc, amazing material. I go down to 18 with jigs.... But its not necessary since they rarely bounce bottom... Unless i do oversized bead with them... Which i often do. Tight lines and be safe Cheers 🍻🍻😀

I don't think either one is better than the other with regard to tying efficiency or the fish catching ability. Both materials are exceptional feathers to tie with once you learn how to apply each to the hook. Look the fish are not that smart if anything they are pretty stupid. After all, they eat flies with a chunk of steel sticking out the back end!

I personally prefer CDC. Only because its softer so it moves better with current. And most importantly it catches air bubbles which can probably be the trigger. I agree that both are pretty much the same... And that fish are stupid.... I use same example with hook sticking out of the fly... But, still, sometimes we cant read clues well and we catch less fish... For those times i would pick cdc over partridge always
Better than CDC???? (read the description)
