As for why the loading order causes this gap - it has to do with the way physics are calculated in games. Each frame, the game updates each object's movement, one at a time. Gravity pulls objects down, but only if there is not something blocking their path. It looks like the order the objects are updated are based on their reverse spawn order. If the tower is updated from top to bottom, the top block tries to fall, but there is already a block under it so it doesn't move. Then the second block, then the third, until finally the bottom block tries to move, and it has an open space so it moves. That means that at the end of the frame there is a gap between the bottom block (which moved down) and the second-to-bottom block (which didn't). Each frame the bottom block moves down another 2 pixels, and the block above it moves down 2 pixels. As long as the tower doesn't hit a floor, the gap will remain. But if the tower is updated from bottom to top, then it stays together. The bottom block moves down first, then the second from the bottom is updated. It has an open space, so it moves down as well. Then the third, and so on. So the tower stays together.

(Giant here) Awesome, thanks for spreading this technique Ceave! The video is very thorough and there's really not much I can add. :-) Now I have hope that more people will use it and come up with some mind-blowing combinatorial puzzles once SMM2 comes out. It's not entirely impossible they fixed the delay-shifting (the "Giant gap" triggered by game lag) by then, but measuring the "wiggle" of the moving stack will almost certainly still be possible. That's because for "fixing" the order-dependent wiggle and make all stack rigid, Nintendo would need to construct a bottom-to-top contact graph in each time step to resolve contacts in a unique bottom-up order. Sounds doable, but that would probably cause problems for the arbitrarily complex scenarios that SMM2 will need to support gracefully.
@tatiaus5 жыл бұрын
10:00 Funny enough I messed around with this a week ago. I want to correct something, items spawns from the top to the bottom in priority and than from the right to the left, this can easily be proved by playing with Yoshis: Yoshis that are higher on the screen will spawn first, while the other ones will become mushrooms. If Yoshis are at the same height, the Yoshis that are the most on the right will spawn first, while the other ones on the left will become mushrooms. So basically you just inversed things :p 11:07 "The order in which the pow blocks spawn is information that we can manipulate" True! If an item is spawned before an another one, It's still possible to make it despawn from going far enough off screen and comeback to make it being spawned after the other one if possible and change the order. Here's a level that uses this mechanic: supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/1B46-0000-03B4-62C3 clips.twitch.tv/IcyGoodSharkVoteYea with the 2 Pows spawning before the single pswitch clips.twitch.tv/MistyTenderCrabGOWSkull with the 2 Pows spawning after the single pswitch 11:20 Oh for a second I thought you were going to talk about how chain chomps break free after the 51st lunge. Actually let me just quote what the tag says: "In SMB3 only, a chain chomp will break free from his stump on the 51st lunge in the same direction. If you put a sideways spring next to him so he always lunges in the same direction, it takes 81 seconds. Walking away and coming back to respawn the chomp will reset the counter. Putting him on global ground will preserve the counter, and he continues lunging and can break free while you're away. If the chomp breaks free, then you walk away and back, he will respawn connected to the stump. If you keep the original chomp within range while you do this, you can get 2 chomps at once, and repeat the process for more." Anyways that was a very interesting way to showcase this mechanic in ways that I never knew before! Keep it up Ceave :)

@randomdaydreamer99705 жыл бұрын
@@hateinc.9289 Me, or Ceave, because it's unclear. If it's Ceave then that's surprising. But if it's me: Many other people have pointed this out, the word 'surprisingly' goes over a lot of people's heads. If the word 'complicated' is paired with the word 'simple' without pointing out that they're opposites and they're describing the same thing, most people would find it as a mistake or something else like that despite the descriptive words around them. Plus, I'm kinda just after likes, if you're wondering why I didn't make my comment in all caps and in bold, it's because it may make it look like I'm hating on Ceave. And if you say likes on comments are useless, the more likes you get on comments the more likely you're going to appear in the highest rated comments, not just on the video you commented on, but in other videos too, KZbin's comment system is made to put people who have commented popular comments before more likely to appear in the highest rated comments but only for some people. So the more likes I get, the bigger the chance to get noticed again. Yes, I realize that's still not a very good reason I should want likes. But when you're on a video that just got uploaded less than an hour ago, you at least have to try to write a good comment.

Those two statements arn't mutually exclusive. It could very well be the "MOST COMPLICATED THING IN MARIO MAKER" while also being surprisingly simple. Being the most complicated thing in mario maker does not make it an actually complex thing, it just means its the most complex thing in that particular case of mario maker. If most of mario maker is 1% complex and this thing is 2% complex then it is the most complex thing in mario maker, however its still only 2% complex making it surprisingly simple.
