I always love your practical no-nonsense approach. I have seen many a bonsai vid of self-styled bonsai masters who are beyond tedious. using tweezers and tiny scissors contemplating for 10 minutes weather to cut a teeeeny tiny branch or not. They are impossible to watch. .....and I go like: "oh for heavens sake just cut the bloody branch off already!!!!" Their trees also often look like overly styled "disney-like" trees. I prefer the more natural look of your trees. The forest turned out very beautiful. Cheers.

I absolutely love it when you say your not a bonsai master. Mr Chan somebody needs to remind you of all you KZbin followers, the fact that you have some wonderful books one of which, even tho you were nice enough to put back in print new and improved is very expensive to buy used - actually they all are if you can find them AND get the person to part with them. You have a very successful nursery known all over the world while staying very humble and zen yet able to make quick decisions. At the very least you are a extremely accomplished bonsai practitioner lol. Happy New Year

I am in the process of starting Cedar of Lebanon from seed, I get the impression the trees are somewhat fast growers, keeping my fingers crossed the seeds germinate in the early spring.

Another great project, I plan on doing more forests, everyone loves my Alberta Spruce forest, I don't know what I am waiting for. It's amazing the transformation from what the cut and write looks like and how it will look in 3-5 years. I have a nursery selling my trees now, lots of demand for JRP, I'm now growing as fast as I can, hopefully my little trees will be used by some masters like you to create final bonsai.

Thank you, Thank you, you got me interested in starting up a new hobby, raising bonsais trees. Only problems is my age, I might not live to see the the fruit of my labor. So, I figure out I have to purchase an older tree or a fast grouping tree. Older tree with nice large trunk cost too much so only option is getting a tree that is fast growing. Can you recommend some names of tree that are fast growing I would appreciated. Thank you 🙏

I know it’s a negative to say I am old but what I neglected to tell you that I maybe old in years but I’m young in my mind and spirit. I see at life in bright colors and continuing to learn new things. Our society look at you and making a quick judgment and move on, never to take the time to see what is inside of that person. My feeling is their lost because there are a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that why I enjoy what you call your ramming on with your wisdom based on your experience in your life journey. Once someone find out about my age, they often say I don’t act my age, my response is can you give me a manual that tells you how should an 75 year old should act and behave and I will do it, but you can’t (because there isn’t one) just crawl back into your hole and don’t bother me. Society want to know your age so they can pigeonhole you into their perceptions of what they perceive you should act given your age. My response to that is screw you. (Sorry about the language, I was once in the US Navy and they taught me how to swear) Anyway what I mean was, is there any tree or brush that is fast growing so I can see the fruit of my labor. I love white pine or any pine for that matter partly because I enjoy the outdoor in the high Sierra mountain but the problem about pine is it takes too long for them to developed and mature. I know the Chinese Juniper or the Japanese maple are good choices. But will I be able to see the results of my creation. I know taking up this hobby require time but that’s one thing I don’t have but that life. You have to make the best of your time here and be mindful of others. Something in which the newer generation has lost, being mindfulness and life is not all about you. Base on your vlog, I know the Ficus is a strong candidate and is the fastest and easiest to grow but is there any another? After viewing your vlog, I have propagated several Ficus cutting to use as material to education myself on the new hobby. They are already to be potted and they are fast grower but is there any other trees that are fast growing tree that you can suggest? During the Christmas season I am keeping an eye on some pine tree and juniper during the holidays when they go on sale. If not that okay, I have enough material to try and learn from. I do have an Azalea that is in a pot it is about 2-3 ft. tall and the trunk is about a half inch to 1 inch in diameter and is doing very well. I have an Japanese maple on the ground, the trunk is about 1-2 inches in diameter but is not looking very well because of gopher problem. I think they had got into the roots system. Do you know how to get ripped of those dam gopher? There are a lot of them in our yard. Because of California being a progressive socialist state we can’t poison them, can’t shoot them, so they just multiply. Someone suggested of putting dry ice in top of the dirt at night the CO2 will humanly put them to sleep with hurting them or you can pour fish poop in their entrance. Mom said in China they used to pee on the ground but I don’t know about that. Given your many years and your expertise do you have any suggestion in getting rid of gopher? Would you mind commenting on how you maintain the Lebanon Cedar forest once it is freshly potted in the training pots? Do you immediately saturate the pot? Are you watering it daily or how often are you watering? For someone without a greenhouse, would you recommend putting them in full Sun or part shade? I am hoping to create my own Lebanon forest but I wasn’t sure how difficult is the maintenance. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just keep the soil moderately damp - not soaking wet or bone dry

What kind of water do you use for watering the nursery plants? Is it natural water from rain or lakes or is it ordinary water "out the pipe"? Is it "hard" water or do you treat it in special way? You dont have to worry about all that - we just use the mains water. No need for rain water etc. Water in our area is Hard but no harm done.
