Awesome loved seeing this. Steam locos are prone to wheel slip so ´o surprise there when he pulled out, but he did get a quick recovery nice 👍😎😊

Yes and these locomotives are easy to get into a slip being a Pacific the weight lightens on the front driving wheels and increases on the truck under the cab under heavy load. She was very badly damaged in a slip years ago when a slip started and caused water to flow into the regulator. That stopped the driver from being able to close the valve, The driver tried to wind the reverser into neutral but the water reached the super heater tubes and the slip became violent Some say she reached 140mph before the rods bent and flew off one driving wheel was turned on the axle and the driver got his wrist broken by the reverser spinning round. Now she looks fantastic after a full restoration.

@@ccrx6700 I used to get a VHS every quarter and the only video I have ever seen was taken from far back on the train. You hear the slip and smoke shooting up everything in a cloud of steam Just a glimpse of a rod flying off. There was a report on TV about it showing some of the damage and just last week a video about the company who restored and now runs her showed the bent rods had been kept all these years

They sure did a beautiful job of restoring Blue Peter. Great that the sunny day put the gleaming beauty in its best light. I especially liked that opening shot, the angle seemed to capture a bit of all that raw power steaming into the station.

It's great to see this big powerful locomotive back in action Like the A4 they were built for speed and hauling the heavy expresses on this line from London to Scotland. The light was lovely and I do like the opening shots too bathed in sunlight.

Great video. It's good to see 60532 blue Peter back on the mainline and 60047 in old colas Rail livery still! 😅

Thank you Jimmy. Really glad to see Blue Peter back on the main after all these years we now have 4 of LNER's finest. I got lucky with the Colas 60, it was coming just as I got to the bridge, not so lucky with Blue Peter which if had set off on time I would of had a much longer view of there.

I still can't get used to the br numbers forfamous steam trains i grew up with. 4472 will always be flying scotsman for me, not 60103, and here, 532 will always be blue peter. Having always watched the program as a child, they always knew it as plain old 532 blue peter, not 60532. Nevertheless, what a spanking paint job that glorious shade of blue is. Well done to all involved

I know how you mean Both locos are still those numbers to me as well. The time when flying Scotsman ran with that number is way back so I only remember the BR numbers yet Flying Scotsman running none stop with a water tender and LNER apple green on the BBC programme is my memory of her. 532 on Blue Peter as well, and was the first loco I saw speeding by me trackside during filming for the programme,

It always amazes me how much steam is wasted through the various pipes and valves, not least of which is the steam heating between the stock😂

It really showed up more on this cold day. I don't know what is under the tender that lets steam out every o often, not seen that before, I saw a steam heat pipe burst on a video on here not long ago and it went with quite a bang, I thought the pressure was around 25psi. When I visited East Lancs Railway I asked one of the locomen, he said around 20psi and there is a regulator valve to prevent too much pressure, always a sight to see an express in winter with steam pouring out all over, I used to think its a wonder the last coach gets any heat.

@cedarcam Yes by the time it gets to the last one it's probably just water 🤣👍
