A little follow on from your last video on card evaluation, how would you weight different effects that do similar things? You used Natures Claim as an example of a good card, because it was a destroy effect for 1 Mana. How much more weight would exile carry? How much more would you be willing to pay for that? Or making them sac rather than destroying? I guess I am asking how do you pick between similar but distinct effects assuming you arent tailoring to your meta?

Hi, I've been gradually turning my Gitrog edh deck into a CEDH deck. But my deck seems to be in the more adaptive spectrum of decks. I use disruptive pieces like the black and green force of (despair, vigour), abrupt decay, nature's claim, beast within & fatal push. Manglehorn is also in the deck as a stax piece (although it isn't a stax deck). I use heroic intervention, automn's veil, veil of summer and sylvan safekeeper as protection (with sylvan safekeeper also doubling up as a combo piece). The deck is 48 lands and is looking to ramp and disrupt my oponants decks until I can either directly spend mana using coffers, urborg or urborg, bubbling muck (or all 3) on torment of hailfire, or resolve splendid reclamation or worldshaper (death trigger) and either or both amulet of vigour and lotus cobra. To cast torment of hailfire. I also use titania protector of argoth with sylvan safekeeper or zuran orb as a backup beatdown option and Kozilek, Butcher of Truth to either cast as a massive threat and less counterable card draw, to protect the graveyard from being exiled or overmilling through Gitrog and Underrealm Lich combo or discarded to either Noose Constrictor or Key to the City, or placed there instantly using entomb. I use crucible of worlds, ramunap excavator, life from the loam and sometimes eternal witness to get specific lands out of my graveyard and use boseiju who shelters all and cavern of souls to protect some of the spells I cast depending on timing and availability. I use crop rotation, Elvish Reclaimer, expedition map and Nylea's Intervention (can sweep flyers too) to search for specific lands. I also use Glacial Chasm to buy time to win. I use worldly tutor, demonic tutor, vampiric tutor and green suns zenith to search for creatures (or dryad arbor gs). I use animate dead instead of reanimate because I can then also destroy it myself (in the case of world shaper). I use life and death instead of reanimate for flexability. For ramp I use Burgioning, Exploration, Springbloom Druid, Azusa, Driad of the Ilysian Grove, summer bloom, carpet of flowers, harrow, kodama's, explore and cultivate (plus mana crypt and sol ring) Plan to use all the fetchlands on colour. I use stripmine and ghost quarter, ash barrens, barren moor, polluted mire and tranquil thicket, high market, Dakmor Salvage, field of the dead, vesuva, nurturing peatland and one of each snow covered lands, homeward path and emergence zone. Based on the info above, is it reasonable to call it an adaptive deck, or is it still proactive but slower?

what can the proactive player do when the play group facing your deck too many time(e.g. turbo hulk vannifar)? the players are willing sacrifice their mana efficiency play and leave up the mana to counter the key spell and because the demonic consultation oracle combo can finish off with 3 mana, they can easliy winning form nowhere. Love you works!

What turn should a proactive deck plan to combo off?
@PlayingWithPowerMTG4 жыл бұрын
While a proactive deck can go off early, there isn't a defined "turn" they should go off. Proactive decks seeks to execute their combo asap. This might mean turn 1 for some decks and turn 4-5 for others. However, from a proactive standpoint, it's more advantageous to go off before the other decks have a change to setup and stabilize. That normally means turns 1-3.
@josepholiver57134 жыл бұрын
Really cool. Based on your description, Grenzo Doomsday sounds like it would be a proactive deck right? I feel like it would because all you really need is to get to five mana and tutor up doomsday for an early wincon with Grenzo on the board. And it also has a moment of glory kind of feel where winning after the doomsday method is thwarted gets harder.
@PlayingWithPowerMTG4 жыл бұрын
Correct. It wants to execute its combo more than control the board.

A good question is to look at how many counterspells and removal spells have been used and also how many spells are in your opponents hands and how much mana they have open. I usually go for draw in the early game to get card advances but I will go combo piece when I notice an opening.

Even when playing competitive tier 1 lists I have trouble winning as early as turn 1-2 or even 3. I have maybe won 1 or 2 games on turn 3 all others have been later. It is kinda hard for me to understand how people do it since when watching online games they always seem to have good opening hands and still have 7 cards which means they havent taken too many mulligans. How is that possible? I often find myself having to mul down to 5 to have a normal hand and if I do this it is so much harder to win versus decks that have 7 card hands. Do you have any tips for that? Keep mulliganing to have strong competitive hands?
@ssnow55164 жыл бұрын
Peicho Ivanov It depends on your deck. If you’re on Gitrog, aggressively mulliganing to have a hand with frog mana and a discard outlet/ tutor for dakmoor is better than an ok first seven. Opus Thief on the other hand can go off early. But more often it does plays a long game. Your hand essentially needs to do one of two things. Attempt a win by turn 3 or interact with someone elses attempt by turn 2. You probably need to change up your deck if you are often mulling to 5 for normal hands

So I have a question about my deck. I've been slowly brewing my Lavinia, Azorius Renegade together for the last two years. It has lockdown pieces like Knowledge Pool, Omen Machine, T3feri, Creature Teferi, and Dranith Magistrate, but it also runs efficient counter magic and few extra turn spells. The deck trys to execute lockdown as fast as possible but definitely has the ability to sit back and control the table. Would this be considered an Adaptive deck? And could I send a decklist to you guys for tips or would that be something thats more Patreon exclusive?

Quick question I really like the way you guys do the competitive EDH I am looking for making a good Commander CEDH but I am thinking going for Atraxa or Sliver Overlord, which one you think is better an easy to be around. I seen you guys play Breya, so which of this three mentioned you guys think it has the most potential I have almost any card in Magic been collecting since the beginning but I only use it for art porpoises especially the old ones but I want to have one competitive EDH. So you kindly give me a suggestion I really appreciate it.
@PlayingWithPowerMTG4 жыл бұрын
Breya is probably the best of the three. Then Sliver Overlord. Atraxa is not going to be great from a CEDH standpoint, but if you look into Tymna/Thrasios, those get you the same colors and you'll get card advantage in the command zone.

It was the premium Food Chain commander before Korvold! So absolutely it can pack a punch or two. Sadly, it's "just" a combo piece and not a value engine too.
@matthewbesherse70014 жыл бұрын
orsettomorbido true but I have like 6 or 7 other combos with him. Where as korvold needs the infinite combo first before he wins. And he doesn’t have access to ass many different one as Prossh does. Or as easily. Like Korvold is totally in my Prossh deck as a wincon for when I go infinite, but you couldn’t put Prossh in a Korvold deck. Korvold’s backup plan of doming people is for efficient but not as unexpected.
