Happy Easter everyone!!! As you may notice some of our egg experiments didn't make the final cut yet you can see them on our table in the beginning. Indigo powder [dark blue] and alkanet root [lavender] were both busts but we will try again next year after much reasurch.

I wondered if blueberries and raspberries mashed up and boiled with water would give a deep red and blue dye for coloring eggs.

Blue comes from grape juice and green color for eggs from spinach boiled. Red cabbage can give you blue but they need to set in dye overnight.

I've been trying to learn to cook, and watching you, so calm and collected, cooking in a fireplace, is an inspiration! Seriously, all your work is just fantastic. I've never caught you guys in an historical error. On the contrary, you're always on the money, and you bring history alive. Thank you so much.

We used natural dyes for our Easter eggs a few years ago, it was so much fun. We used red cabbage for blue, beets for red, and yellow onion skins for yellow. We used vinegar to help set the colors. And we got orange, green, and purple by dying some eggs twice, once in the paler color and then next in the darker. We had a lovely rainbow of colors, too. We also used beeswax to draw on ours, then when dry and set, dipped them in boiling water briefly to wipe the wax off and leave the plain egg or one of the two colors visible. The green eggs with yellow looked the best!

Dear Kids. I remember dying our eggs. We did not have the colors you have today. Great Grandmum would do as Justin did and it took abt 2 days to prepare the colors. We had many siblings so it took alot of work. The last time I remember coloring our eggs the Justine did it it was 1926. After Great Grandmum died we didn't do it her way anymore. It was nice to see it done this way again. Thank you Lass for teaching these youngsters the old way. 👵🙏
