Brilliant, I really enjoyed that nostalgic look at the area.

After watching this video earlier today, I watched Look North's evening news programme. By complete coincidence it featured St. George's Crypt; they interviewed some homeless gentlemen who were there for a hot meal and discussed the hardships they are facing in the very cold weather. Further on in the programme, they showed a group of school children from Bradford having a two-day stay in the Yorkshire Dales. Despite only living an hour away from the Dales, many of them hadn't visited it. Those kids were shown running up a hill and visited a farm. So, despite the length of time since Charles filmed those wonderful segments of daily life, some things haven't changed.

Huge thanks to Rachel Williams for donating this amazing collection of films for us all to enjoy. Rachel, if you read this, your father was an amazing man (I'm sure that you already knew that, but it should be acknowledged). He raised so much money for charity and did wonderful things with the proceeds. I hope that he was recognised for his altruism when he was alive, but I suspect not. I bet he was a modest man and no one thought to highlight his good deeds. The plaque on the Charles Chislett Centre now recognises his filmmaking - obviously it won't have the space to list his charity work. I hope that there's more information about him inside the centre. Your family is amazing too - putting up with being filmed enables us to look back on what life was like many years ago. Nowadays, kids are used to being filmed, but it would have been rare then. I was impressed that Charles also filmed regular people as well as his family (film couldn't have been cheap), especially those from poorer backgrounds - giving us all an insight into their lives. The men working with the molten ore, without any protective equipment, the milk churns being loaded and the ladies making cheese. The kids enjoying a week in the Dales, in the fresh air - it was lovely to see them enjoying themselves. I hope that, if any of them are still alive, then they get to watch this.
