@D B How does that make any sense? They needed money for what? They were rich they had all the money they wanted it makes no sense to kill your parents for something you already have. Besides there IS evidence and testimonies that they were indeed abused
@Crazy_Peanutz4 жыл бұрын
@D B Yeah, cause a 13 year old kid would think: "hmmm I want to murder my parents but not now... Maybe in 8 more years, but still, I could write a fake letter now to my cousin so it looks like my dad is raping me so MAYBE I could get lesser prison for it." Do you hear how fucking ridiculous that sounds?
@Crazy_Peanutz4 жыл бұрын
@D B Dude, you know that that letter they found was from WAAYYYY back you know that right? It wasn't written just before the killings, or even a few years before, it was written by a KID. A SCARED KID THAT COULDN'T LIVE HIS LIFE BECAUSE OF HIS DAD. You also know that if their parents are rich, they would've just gotten the money anyways right? It's not like they needed the money in a hurry. And if they DID do it for the money they would've used it to get away from the police, but they didn't, they turned themselves in. Why would you kill your parents for money and then spend the rest of your life in jail? It makes cero sense and thank god you're not actually investigating the case cause your level of retardness is outstanding
@Crazy_Peanutz4 жыл бұрын
@D B Okay, you just destroyed your whole "argument" you say they had a carefree lifestyle, then again, why would they live like that? they knew they were getting caught. Wouldn't it make more sense to use that money to escape or buy their way out? Its more likely they wanted to spend the money just before they were arrested, enjoying the few months they had before prison. Also, if they had a bad defense and weren't prepared, like you say, HOW WOULD THEY MAKE UP THE BIG STORY ABOUT BEING ABUSED BY THEIR DAD AND EVEN MORE SO, GET THEIR COUSIN TO TESTIFY AND AGREE AND HAVE PROOF??? See?? It doesn't make fucking sense. Have you seen how they react in the trials? THey are either the greatest actors that ever lived or they're telling the truth, and it's obvious its the latter one

I am being haunted by this case. Erik was of my age when he snapped. I know kids who have been taken advantage of and the lasting psychological impact it has on them. Damaged for life. I am sincerely begging the system to reconsider this case. Give them chance to live a normal life which they never got a chance to live. Don't look at the lifestyle they enjoyed. It was a facade, sad sort of retail therapy to compensate the abuse they were made to endure. Lyle never got to experience childhood because at 6 he was already in sexual relationship with his father. No wonder his mother hated him. if they didnt do this.. father would have done it to save family reputation and God knows how many more kids would have been subjected to similar atrocity. But it isn't too hard for me to imagine that if I had been tortured like these men were by their own parents, that I would want to end them for the irreparable damage they inflicted. The only difference between these two and most other abuse survivors, is that they actually went through with it. Things that happened prior to and following the murders seem like acting out, not greed. They have been paying the price for their parents' abuse their whole lives. When they killed their parents, they ambushed them while they were sitting on the couch watching TV. -- They had to go out to the car to kill the mother because they ran out of ammo. -- They shotgunned their dead parents in the kneecaps to make it look like a mob hit. -- They collected the shell casings. -- They got rid of their clothes and weapons and after showering went to see a movie to fabricate their alibi. -- They then made their infamous 911 call to report that their parents were murdered. @TIME! The brothers had the opportunity to introduce the evidence from their first trial, but that was taken off the table when Lyle refused to take the stand in light of incriminating tapes that would have been introduced into the second trial. The defense tried to exempt both brothers from taking the stand, instead allowing their testimonies from the first trial to be introduce as evidence to protect them from cross examination. The idea that the brothers were barred from introducing evidence into testimony is laughable because they had the opportunity to do so, but decided not to because Lyle was afraid to take the stand.

@@C.I366 Well, if incrimintating tape recording of me saying that I had fooled half the country during the first trial was going to be introduced into the first trial as evidence, I too probably would not have taken the stand. However, much of the abuse allegations hinged on Lyle's testimony. And because he refused to take the stand, much of his claims of being molested by his father became somewhat irrelevant at that point. If he wanted to deploy the abuse excuse during the second trial, he should have taken the stand.
@Muirmaiden4 жыл бұрын
@@jstephenj That "recording" never existed. Dominick Dunne paid a woman named Martha Shelton to fabricate stories about the Menendez brothers in his articles in Vanity Fair Magazine. The tapes of Lyle's conversations with Norma Novelli (which were recorded without his knowledge or consent) were never admitted into evidence because the judge listened to them and stated that there was nothing of significance on them. Please get your facts straight. 'Shelton, 40, who lives in Stafford, Va, says Dunne first paid her to lie for a piece he wrote about Erik and Lyle Menendez in April 1994, then paid her to keep quiet over 10 years. She is quoted in Dunne’s April 1994 piece saying she overheard Lyle Menendez tell someone, after his first trial ended in a mistrial, “We’ve snowed half the country. Now we have to snow the other half.” “That was a lie,” Shelton now says. According to stories in the Los Angeles Times and Washington Post in mid-May 1994, authorities searched her home to find evidence to support her quoted statement, but came up empty. Shelton now says she never overheard Menendez say that, but she was coached by Dunne. Shelton says she told Vanity Fair fact checkers at the time the quote was made up, but they were only interested in getting her tape-recorded statement owning up to the quote - which she provided. Shelton admits she lied in the past. “What I did was wrong,” she said, referring to the quote she gave to Vanity Fair. “But what he did was wrong as well. He backed out of a deal.” It was while in prison for the check-writing fraud in the early 1990s that she first wrote to Lyle Menendez, and they continued a friendship when she got out, she said. In the second trial, Erik and Lyle Menendez were convicted of murdering their parents. No, it was only recently discovered in the dead cousins belongings. It would certainly be enough to prove they are telling the truth about the sexual abuse, if anyone still doubts them.

We can't ignore the fact that these young men MADE THE DECISION to murder their parents, premeditated or not- and this is a decision MOST people won't make, either because they are law abiding, or they didn't want to in the first place ( healthy social behaviour) and found an alternative solution to escaping their problem. Citizens who DO DECIDE to murder, premeditated or not, need to be punished when they do commit these acts. We should also remember that these boys DID demonstrate antisocial behaviour before and after the murder, so if they had not murdered their parents, there is a possibility they would have murdered later in life, etc. Their act of murder speaks to how they think and interact with their world around them. Aside from this, if we were to pardon all murderers who had pain inflicted on them, we would be pardoning 70-90% of killers. In fact, plenty of psychopaths have patterns of abuse as children. We can add people who murder their spouse because of the abuse of cheating, the list goes on. The first question is: Is murder excusable, and if so, what makes murder excusable? And to this I would say defense, only. Any other type of situation may be really bad, but there is always a choice other than murder to get out of your circumstances. And the second question is: if you believe that having experienced abuse makes you immune to murder, how do we know how much abuse makes it excusable? And how do we measure the impact of that abuse on the person? Where is the line here? Is any of this fair? And is murder the only offence we pardon due to abuse? If we found out the father was sexually abused by his father as a child, would we pardon him for what he did to his sons? I think people are over-simplifying the situation here. Abuse doesn't relieve one of culpability, IMO, and unfortunately. God bless the whole family. Very tragic story. 💔

I’m not condoning murder but validation of murder in this country is not new depending on the circumstances if they benefit us or not abortion is legal murder, wars on foreign countries to take their natural resources legal murder so lets not act like double standards don’t exist

I don't agree. The sexual abuse and years of trauma clouded their judgement. They said they thought their parents would kill them because Erik told Lyle of the abuse. Based on the dad threats they wanted to save their own lives before the dad took theirs.

They had a choice to go to authorities about their lives instead of killing their parents. I'm not judging them at all but I wonder what would happen if they did.

Nah… The officer who was working at that department indicated that the father “could not have been touching his kids bc he was MARRIED AND WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR.” POs are not trained in the psychology of Child molsters apparently especially ppl from the fckn 50s. Children of child abse are just recently being helped by the system and CPS has been established since the 80s. The system sucks arse. The Turpin children are a perfect example of how Child abuse isn’t taken seriously. They transferred hem to a “nice” foster home and those ppl emotionally abused them on top of what already happened to them. Also, they’re males. Males don’t report much bc of the way society treats them when they do. They certainly don’t deserve LWOP.

Anyone else think maybe they were hyperventilating knowing they were facing a life sentence...the way they behaved after their parents death just doesn’t add up it seems like money was the motive

@@sarahhhhhhhh569 yes I found out after. But they inheritance would come in their hands in 30 years, why would they kill someone now to benefit in 30 years?
@sarahhhhhhhh5694 жыл бұрын
Chrysa LPL thirty years is still a heck of a long time. They were in their twenties and this is a time where most people party and act reckless (money would help; I.e parties and cars) and by your thirties ur financially stable which they wouldn’t be unless they had the inheritance immediate . They were born rich and had no sense of struggle and waiting for that money means they would have had to go out and live like an average person until their fifties which is not ideal especially for rich people. But since their parents aren’t here I guess we can only speculate since they are unable to defend themselves
@RevisitingMenendez4 жыл бұрын
@@sarahhhhhhhh569 I'd highly recommend watching the entire first trial. The "money" and "greed" theory was completely discredited. The brothers always had access to money and they thought they were out of the will many months before the shooting. It doesn't make any sense as a motive.

They didn't need life without...but bet spot of people don't kn Leslie had a case before there's where boy killed father an she got him off with abuse so she used her pay book that works...but will say he was a really strict dad
@gloriagraz9103 жыл бұрын
Eric and Lyle s childhood Traumas were not made up stories. Their case had nothing to do with the case Leslie dealt with beforehand, and who knows maybe their stories were true in bothe cases, it might happen more frequently than you know about. But the second trial Was completely unfair for these boys, there was literally photographic evidence of their abuse which was forbidden by the judge to be shown in the second trial, only so they could convict them. They have been through so much, they deeply regretted it and would have never done it if their parents had not created this terrifying Situation in which they felt they had no other options left to save their own life. They served their time, they are no threat to anybody and really deserve to be freed after all.
