It seems like many people are treating this Netflix series as a completely accurate account of events, when in fact, I believe Ryan Murphy is telling the story from multiple perspectives, not just Erik and Lyle’s. This not only heightens the drama-since it is a drama series-but also encourages viewers to explore the case further, as the differing viewpoints offer vastly contrasting narratives. Ultimately, it's the viewer's responsibility to research the facts themselves and not let a TV show shape their judgment entirely.

(which brought me here) it is disappointing they were unhappy with the product, however I personally think the show did a wonderful job at highlighting just how much the court fumbled and how the mass public unrightfully perceived the case, especially at the time. Times have changed. I think their unhappiness with the show comes with the fact they have been robbed of life as things have progressed, and they have not watched other shows. They do not know the extent of the true crime community or even how much the public has truly shifted in SA awareness. I think they’re scared that this may ruin their public image and rightfully so considering they may have a chance at getting out.

@@dimitrabouzalas3090 Right. This was a legal criminal case NOT some emotional documentary. They did what they did with malice, plotting, planning, and even practice a day before at the range. Emotional and gullible people have the ability to PRETEND like this case starts and ends with abuse but the legal reality is WHO in prison has not been abused? MOST prisoners are abuse victims. Should we free them all because of YOUR personal gullibility despite their abuse excuses FAILING to convince a jury? We have juries for a REASON and that is to WEIGH the evidence. The evidence in this case FAILED to convince TWO juries at the first trial so they are where they belong in prison. Unless they are going to release thousands of prisoners for an abuse excuse that did NOT convince juries then no special privileges to these two killers. I would have loved to HEAR the parents explain their side of the story but they STOLE that opportunity just like they STOLE the parents legal right to fight back when they used firearms to kill them in their own house.

@S.Blonde4 күн бұрын
@@mirabelarmstrong433 That is a lie their fans repeat. My comment is based on irrefutable facts not nonsense fan talk. There were 101 defense witnesses at the first trial and 64 defense witnesses at the second trial. There was certainly abuse evidence at the second trial and Erik testified for days at the second trial. It is NO ONE's fault besides Lyle's that Lyle chose not to testify at the second trial. The abuse evidence at the second trial was limited to recent abuse before and after the crime. The child abuse was irrelevant and should have never been allowed at the first trial but the judge and prosecutors were being nice hoping that the child abuse evidence proved imminent fear at the time of the crime against BOTH parents. It is NO ONE'S fault but the brothers that their testimony's did NOT describe imminent fear of their mother. They had 3 years to think of stories to tell at the trial that proved imminent fear and they had defense attorneys that should have ensured that took place. Since that did not happen the juries could not agree to vote in the brothers' favor of whether or not they were abused and if the abuse was so extreme it caused them to be in imminent fear of both parents. The second trial was certainly a fair trial because it is no one's fault but the brothers they did NOT have the evidence and corroborating testimonies to prove imminent fear of both parents. You cannot block evidence that does not exist. The defense showed their full hand at the first trial and it failed to convince the juries.

Well, abuse or not, it still is premeditated murder. They were old enough to go away. No one in their right mind having the chance to escape that situation would just stay, go take time to buy shotguns, plan alibis, wait around and commit cold blood murder. They perhaps were abused, but they chose to plan and carry out a murder to take out their parents and enjoy their money. How many teenagers escape abusive parents and run to the streets? The "groomed to stay at home" doesn't make any sense.

I agree 100 percent. The father bought Lyle a condo, bought both brothers cars, paid their college tuition, gave them money, financed their international vacations they went on without their parents, etc. NEITHER brother had a valid reason for still being in that house. The parents even changed the locks and refused to give them a key yet Erik testified he "found new ways to break in the house." Locked doors mean go away. Condos are supposed to be lived in. What made me even more keen on this was finding out about what happened to the Menudo member at the hands of Jose Menendez.

I think Ryan Murphy did an excellent job at dramatizing the case from all known perspectives. It was so well done. The scene where Erik tells Leslie about the molestations was incredibly well done. That actor is amazing. This series should result in the brothers’ freedom. Something besides money alone drove these brothers to kill. They will not kill again. They should go free.

@@liveinthenow3571 I get that, but it is causing the DA to look at the case and decide if the alleged abuse was discounted too much in the second trial. Now with more possible corroborating evidence, will he decide manslaughter should have been on the table? That gets them off with time served. Ryan Murphy did an excellent job of presenting the two narratives: that the brothers killed for money or the brothers were abused. He does not come to a conclusion. I think the truth is in the middle, actually.

it's so sad and angering that their shopping spree was never looked at from the perspective of a traumatized person, but immediately labeled as greedy. if i were in their place i would try to dissociate and escape reality as well, and spending money is an easy way to get that stimulation quickly. it's such a common coping mechanism! i'm not surprised that it wasn't taken into account, given the prejudices and lack of understanding at that time, but it's sad regardless.
