Celebrating the Summer Day Festival in Tirana Albania

We were lucky enough to be in Tirana, Albania to celebrate the Summer Day Festival, otherwise known as Dita e Verës. Summer Day is a pagan festival that is celebrated every year on March 14th. This festival is big in Tirana: businesses were closed, school was out, and everyone headed to the main square, Skanderbeg Square, to enjoy the festivities. And wow was it a beautiful day for it! Besides the music, food, dancing, singing, shopping, sports, animals, art, kids activities and even car show, our favorite activities were learning about the Ballokume, a tasty corn-based cookie, and the Verore, a simple bracelet that has been recognized by UNESCO as "intangible cultural heritage". We had a fantastic day and maybe you can enjoy it too if you visit Albania next year!
