I've been traveling on and off for 40+ years. The past six years I've lived in three diffrent countries traveling slow as my senior dog was with me. Sadly my 17 year old dog had to be put to sleep due to dementia and cancer stealing her quality of life. I am planning on leaving on my travels again in the next two months. I also hope to find a new home base along the way. Las Vegas is a good place to regroup. I've lived there twice and furnished rentals are quite nice. David congratulations on your childrens book.🎉 I have already checked to make sure I can purchase it here in Europe through Amazon and I can. I am working on my own childrens book. My other love is mysteries which I have rough drafts of but the children's books hold my heart right now. Safe travels. ❤

There are lots of good search engines, we used to rely a lot on Skyscanner but lately Google Flights has been doing great for us! It’s not perfect but it seems to be the best for us currently. 😁

We took a day boat tour on the Mekong from Luang Prabang, the 2 day looks pretty cool. We crossed into Lao from Nong Khai Thailand. We had to wait for the immigration officer to finish dinner and he charged us about $5 each for "after normal business hours"

Thank you for this superb explanation. It is a great video indeed! I went to their website and tried to book. However, the page only shows a gmail address, there is no online booking system in place. Could you tell me if that's normal or has something changed?

This is the same as it was for us. We made our booking only about two weeks before we wanted to go so we emailed them and texted them with their WhatsApp number - we got a faster response on WhatsApp for what that’s worth. Many similar small businesses in Asia don’t work with booking software because they just aren’t big enough to need it, you just talk to them and book your dates directly.

About the mystery fees: I remember those very well! On the Thai border we paid them, but regretted it afterwards. When we crossed the Laos/Cambodja border we stood our ground and refused to pay the mystery fee. It took about 30 minutes of discussion but eventually we got through. This kind of corruption (because that's what it is) really gets me worked up and is one of the reasons why we dislike crossing the land borders in those countries now.

Wow I’m impressed you got out of it, I’ve heard other people say that when they complained the fee just kept getting bigger and bigger. We’ve experienced it a number of times but are glad it is still pretty rare in general.

I have not been able to get myself to try durian. I am pretty sure my opinion will be the same as yours. I honestly can't get past the smell to confirm that, thought. XD A friend of mine had positive things to say about the taste...but I believe it's a no for me.

Oh my goodness. I remember in Singapore in 1997 / 98 we had to turn on the water heater like 30 minutes before we needed hot water. I recall the switch was outside of the bathroom. 😂

Yup, many places are like that, and not just in Asia. Also the light switches are often outside the bathroom which I always think is weird! 🤣

Good question, we keep much less USD on hand than we used to have to, cause it so rarely is needed most places. But we do keep some with us just in case for situations like this. And it sure paid off here!

We found Violet crumble in Kuala Lumpur and most recently in Luong Prabong Laos which was exciting. But they are still hard to find in most places. They always bring me back to Singapore 1997!! 😄

I want to know what 26 days of cruising is like! I just got off the NCL Star, a repo cruise from Lisbon to Buenos Aires, and it was an amazing time. It was 17 days...and even though I loved it, around day 13 I felt like I was ready for it to be over. I'm envious you're doing the Africa cruise...I looked at that itinerary and asked on the boat about possibly doing it next year but they said, as you mentioned in your video, that this will be the last one. So...can't wait to hear about it. I'd also be interested in hearing about what the transition is like to living back in Vegas and working. Happy Holidays!

We were THISCLOSE to being on that cruise to South America with you. Sadly I think NCL has canceled that itinerary as well going forward ☹️. Thanks for the ideas, we’re gonna share lots about our Africa cruise and cruising in general. Repositioning cruises are often a great option for long term travelers. This will be our second time taking back to back cruises but if we get bored or antsy we’ll talk about that too 😄

I was very pleased with your vlog about Stopover travel in Qatar - which I took avantage of on my way home to Aus from Camino Frances in November. Loved the tour! It was so HOT! So any tips along those lines (if you are going there you can do this too!) is always something I am going to appreciate

Exciting news. With so many nomads experiencing a degree of burnout over the past few years, would you say you’re a little burnt out? Do you have a place to stay lined up in LV or are you going to do local housesits to save on housing costs? For future videos, perhaps discussing how you plan your future FIRE life and if that includes nomad travel, long term staying in one spot in a cheap country, or, like Lisle Van Rhuman, maybe you plan to follow the spring.

I don’t think burn out is the right word, but we are tired. A long stay anywhere would address that but that includes going home again. We have found a great opportunity on a furnished place to stay which was also part of the equation, since furnishing a new place could have been an expensive proposition. Thanks for the ideas on future videos! We try to follow summer where we can, but I guess spring is ok too 🤣🤣🤣

Yes, the walkway is air-conditioned! Now it is also open to the outdoors in places, so I wouldn't call it chilly, but it is still a break from the full heat outside.

We loved our South Pacific cruise, even though we disembarked in French Polynesia and didn't make it all the way back to the US. We were more interested in going to as many islands as we could. Good luck finding the perfect cruise for you!

Love this for you! I know for me, the greatest part of aging is knowing who I am, what I need, and not letting anything change that. I love that you're both listening to YOU and changing as needed. The itinerary sounds fantastic. I'm a huge Seychelles fan ( never been yet) but can't wait to see some of all of that area. Enjoy laos. I was there last year for a couple weeks as I soloed around SE Asia, and it's one of my fav places. Its very calm Luang Prang area, met great locals, loved the pace there. I think once back to life for content you can share everything that you mentioned. I personally, as a (4 days until 50th bday) elder 😂, like content on life and lessons as well. I know I've learned alot in life thus far and everyday I swear I learn something new, and im sure you guys have as well. Its your comfort level with sharing more intimate stories/experiences, but if you did im sure It'd be impactful for others. Happy anniversary btw...32 yrs! I think my longest relationship was 2 yrs, so there's a topic to learn from! ❤ 🎉 Enjoy, and see you in 2025. Kimberly

We are retired full time slow travellers so we like to stay at least one month in one location before going on to the next and we love cruises and also the repositioning cruises. Oman is amazing, breath taking .... the cruise ships are going around Africa this season because of the wars in the middle east . This is probably a once in a generation opportunity for reasonably priced around Africa itineraries , there willbe many sea days on most of the detours

Good point about the avoidance of the Red Sea. Clearly they've lost confidence in keeping passengers happy going to Africa though and are redeploying to the Caribbean after this season. Very glad we are getting the chance to go!

Bravo and happy holidays! I would be interested in how you will be dealing with inflation back in the U.S. Whether you own a place or will rent while you try to reach FIRE. Also, the biggest problem I have been encountering lately is the rising cost of accommodations around the world...any new strategies?

Great questions. Inflation is really an issue, we are here in Laos now and things are much more expensive than we had been led to believe (though still quite affordable by Western standards.) This is a big reason we are going back to work just so we can make sure we are able to keep up with rising prices everywhere.

The time goes so fast! And yes, we are on the same ship the whole way, the NCL Dawn. Not my favorite ship so we upgraded to a balcony cabin which I think we will appreciate! (Our first ever balcony with NCL!)

@@gregneil612 Using ff miles definitely adds a layer of challenge, especially during busy travel seasons. That another reason we love points but don't rely on them.
