Don’t forget, if you walk in August, like I do, 3 liters of water in a backpack bladder is a wonderful idea. Love your videos. Buen camino!
@tendegreeswarmer2 күн бұрын
Very good point, that water needs would be increased at that time of year, potentially significantly. I'd never try and talk someone into taking less water than they want!! But with a little planning there is still a lot of water available along the way (on most days) if you look around. Buen Camino!
@wayne44532 күн бұрын
Last year I left SJPDP on August 27. It was 42°C (108°F). I took 1 liter with me to Orisson. I refilled there with 3 liters and then refilled another 1 liter at the Spanish border. When I arrived at Roncesvalles I was out of water. Granted, I’m an old geezer, but you can always offload water, but you can’t upload it on the Meseta when you took too little. I’m loving the vicarious journey with the both of you and I wish you both a beautiful and wonderful Buen Camino!
@tendegreeswarmer2 күн бұрын
@@wayne4453 It was that hot in SJPDP?? Wow! We are already talking about walking the Frances again one day, but I think we'll stick to a June start. haha. With that kind of heat I would totally agree you would need more water. Time of year is really going to make a difference for water needs, but this has been our experience so far in June and heading into July.

Great information on the water. We’re so used to carrying 2-3 liters of water on wilderness hikes that we may out of habit just gone with our norm and carried two Nalgene bottles. Good to know that one is plenty. What about bathrooms? Trees are no problem most of the time but sometimes nature requires more. 😂
@tendegreeswarmer2 күн бұрын
If you can handle the weight, it is better to have too much water than too little, but we didn't anticipate how many fountains we would encounter along the way to refill. As far as bathrooms go, they are always available in the cafes (best to buy something if you want to use the facilities). So far we haven't needed anything but trees in between towns, but we also carry a pile of doggy poop bags and some TP in case we have an emergency situation - leave no trace!

@tendegreeswarmer4 күн бұрын
@@TomChase-yb7fg We'll talk about this more in an upcoming video, because it really is a personal preference everyone needs to kind of figure out for themselves comparing cost to comfort. @tendegreeswarmer5 күн бұрын
Good question. This could vary by cruise line and ship, but in our experience the basic gym was free to use, but you would have to pay extra for some of the classes. (Though we've taken some nice morning stretch classes for free!) Once you start eyeing a particular cruise you'll just have to look into the details for that ship to be sure.

We are generally two meal a day eaters, so now we are splitting lunch into breakfast and lunch. I definitely do not feel hungry! LOL There is so much bread and potatoes and rice. I’m so glad we are able to find premade salads in the grocery stores so we can maintain at least a little vegetables in our diet. But yes it does seem like some people are eating a lot more than we are. It doesn’t seem like we are losing any weight though so I guess we’re doing fine. 😁 But thank you for the concern, it is a valid question when you are likely burning so many more calories per day to keep up with.

AM I TOO OLD? working so hard at trying to get into shape to do camino in October. Was supposed to do Portuguese one year ago but have had to do cancer treatment and coming back from that is bullllllshit. There is a mountain here in santa barbara and when I am able to hike up it I am purchasing my plane ticket. I bought that sunscreen balm and love it. I was reminded that most sunscreen blocks uv/ub but the tinted spf helps prevent brown spots.

Sounds like you've got a great plan to make it happen. And most importantly, I'm glad to hear you are feeling better and ready to try again!!! Though I did learn the hard way to wash my face well at the end of the day before I dry off with a white towel! 😂

When we did the EBC two years ago we watched so many packing videos and ended up bringing twice what we needed for the what ifs. You guys are giving solid information while showing how little you can get by with. Also, if we find we need something I imagine things can be picked up on the way.
@tendegreeswarmer21 күн бұрын
We've watched a lot of those EBC and Camino packing videos, we weren't sure which we would end up trying first, but here we are! Everyone is different but we thought we would talk about what we brought, even some of the more unusual things. We'll see how it all works out by the end! And yes, most things can be picked up along the way, though not at every little village. We are looking to get some sock liners but we are about four stages away from a town with a Decathalon.
@DunRovinRanch-196921 күн бұрын
I love your channel but at 38 minutes you’re testing the boundaries. Here’s my packing list: Altra Lone Peak because that’s what I have. One long sleeved white shirt I received as a marathon finisher, one short sleeve runners finisher shirt because it’s what I have. Two pants with zip off legs because, yep, it’s what I have. I do have to get new socks because all of them have holes. Probably will stick with Starter from Walmart. 30 liter backpack.-already have it. The only new equipment I bought was a light weight camping quilt since I am going in the fall.
@tendegreeswarmer21 күн бұрын
Totally fair about length, appreciate the feedback! Don't worry, most of our videos in this series will be much shorter, but some of our longer videos do pretty well so we just say what we have to say and we're still testing what works (or not). I think minimalism in packing is a great goal, especially for walking the Camino, though obviously we didn't push those boundaries much and brought a lot of more indulgent items. We'll see how we feel about it all in the end. The good news is that even after a few days those 20 pounds don't really bother us at all anymore. But if you can do lighter, I don't think you'll be sad about it! 😀
