Dr Mr Brey, I heard that you think it’s ok to use 7/8 sized cellos… is it ok for someone with short fingers but with great dreams of maybe becoming a good cellist to actually work exclusively on a 7/8 cello?

Hello. Cello dimensions are quite variable and less standardised than those for violins. If you find a smaller cello that suits you and whose sound you like, then why not? My only caveat would be that I know of at least one colleague who gave up playing on a smaller instrument because they felt that it caused them to play in a "cramped," unhealthy way. You are the best judge and the only judge of whether an instrument's dimensions help or hinder you.
