Superb. I have been using a Dremel tool to shape, carve and accent my sticks. My first efforts were poor but I see the improvement in my work. Today I decided to use hand tools only on my latest stick and am finding it so much more gratifying. No noise and far less dust. I hope to achieve this level of craftsmanship someday.

The rotary tool is very handy and I do turn to it with certain hard woods where hand tools are tough to use. But I agree, hand tools do offer a large degree of satisfaction when things work the way you want! Thanks for watching and good luck with your projects!

@@JasonHedrich lots of old grave yards in the Hamilton area Jason. My friend keeps me posted when they are cutting so I can take my pick just getting started though. But watching you has been a great learning curve I am a veteran anything I make I pass on to disabled veterans here. 🏴👍

Hello Jason. Love the video and staff. I am just getting started with wood working and I am very interested in using hand tools rather than electrical. What would you suggest as the essential tools i would need to get started? Thank you for any info! Keep up the amazing work!
@JasonHedrich8 ай бұрын
Thanks for writing… start simple, straight chisels, one carving knife and a saw. Find out what you like doing and add tools as you need. I started that way and very slowly added tools. Most were second hand tools and used finds…

A little bit of sad news on this stick... I had shipped it down to the client and UPS decided it would look better broken in 2 pieces. Had all the "Fragile" and "Do not Bend" stickers on the package but it was folded in half and arrived broken in two. Absolutely heartbreaking to hear... so I will have to design and build another one for the client and try a different carrier. Thankfully theres video proof of this beauty and gives me joy to watch the process... just so regrettable that it won't get put into its intended purpose. Just wanted to give everyone an update on the latest developments...

That's terrible to hear, for such a beautiful job. Did you get any money from UPS?
@JasonHedrich Жыл бұрын
@@robertoarango5425 sadly no, they denied any wrongdoing and closed my file. I did carve another piece for the client and shipped with FedEx. They have done a much better job and less cost than UPS.

Is butternut pretty light if you wanted to use this for it’s intended purpose? Also, what do you charge for something like this? Work of art! Great videos 🍻
@JasonHedrich2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the stick was 60” tall, and came in just under 2 pounds. The wood is very light (compared to ash) so it’ll be easy to walk all day with one! For pricing, email me at jhedrich73@gmail.com and we can discuss it

Theoretically, doesn't the overlap depth have to be the same as the depth of the rib themselves?
@JasonHedrich2 жыл бұрын
Yes, however that would require the carving to be quite deep and could make the stick a bit weaker if we remove too much material. But 100% for accuracy you are correct.
