I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls With vassals and serfs at my side And of all who assembled within those walls That I was the hope and the pride I had riches to great to count, could boast Of a high ancestral name But I also dreamt, which pleased me most That you loved me still the same That you loved me, you loved me still the same That you loved me, you loved me still the same I dreamt that suitors sought my hand That knights upon bended knee And with vows no maiden heart could withstand They pledged their faith to me And I dreamt that one of that noble host Came forth my hand to claim But I also dreamt, which charmed me most That you loved me still the same That you loved me, you loved me still the same That you loved me, you loved me still the same

Also, I would never mistake her voice as the voice of a 6 year old. I sing in choir as a soprano and Meav's voice is pretty much the golden standard of sopranos. I know I wish I could have anywhere near the maturity, range, and control as her someday.

This is a lovely song, sung beauitful by this singer. The song of course is from, " The Bohemian Girl, by Michael William Balfe. First performed in 1845 at Drury Lane, London. Balfe was born in Dublin and there is a Street there named after him.

This is not a cover version of a song by Enya. Enya's version is a cover version of the song from Michael William Balfe's operetta "The Bohemian Girl" and so is this. Which version you prefer, is a different thing. Also, Méav does not sound like a six year old, nor is this autotuned. Why do people constantly insist on especially popular versions being the original versions of a particular song? That's especially common with classical or traditional pieces. Personally, I love the song, I love Méav, I love this.

Anyone who thinks this is autotuned has no fucking clue what autotune sounds like. Protip: autotune adds a weird gurgly sound to music, like someone is singing underwater. It's really, really easy to spot, which is why these days it's not actually used very much except in self-conscious ways.

No, Celtic Woman doesn't use autotune, and they don't lip-sync. You've heard so much synthetic pop that you can't recognize the real deal. She sounds like a child because she's using the top end of her formidable range to emulate the child character in the original opera. Look up "Dulaman" in the "A New Journey" concert.

Stephen....Meav is gorgeous from anywhere that one would sit in an auditorium. I have been with Meav in many many concerts...from Carnegie Hall to Nashville to Quebec to Ireland to Red Rocks...and on. I have sat in many many seats ... even on front row center and in the balcony....Meav is just like an Angel on that stage as she sings and glides from place to place. God has given her a voice and a talent that is beyond heavenly. And, Meav's loveliness matches the talent that she has been given. Meav is shy ... very shy. She is very humble. She is kind and sweet and loving. We are so very blessed to have Meav and her songs in our lives. ... Sandy Harlow... Co-Admin of Meav's Celtic Songbird Official fb Forum

@Ruijor I love Enya's version as well - she does such a dreamy version of this song. But Marble Halls was intended for an operatic voice. It's from the Irish opera The Bohemian Girl by Wallace. Still, I love the way it lends itself to so many interpretations.

@tessgregory987
@tessgregory987 8 жыл бұрын
It doesn't prove that. If it proves anything, it is that only trained operatic singers should sing operatic arias if we want to hear the best that the composer intended. Look, I've never heard of Enya, but I listened to her singing this, and it was just awful. It is entirely possible that she sings other types of music well. I do not know. All I said was that she was insulting the composer by singing an operatic aria when she clearly hasn't had her voice trained to sing opera. It isn't a question of taste - it's a question of ability.

Ok. First thing Celtic Woman is in no way, shape for form auto-tuned. I had the pleasure of working with them when they came to Buffalo NY this year. (NO AUTO TUNING) the way you hear them on their albums is how you hear them live and they are amazing. And auto tuning makes the singer sound artificial, the ladies of celtic woman have a pure and genuine sound.

@richiedrr "Doesn't anybody find it odd that a hot blonde in a low cut dress sounds like a 6 year old?" No, I don't find it odd at all. I focus on her singing and not on her dress/ body like you obviously do. This song is about childhood memories and dreams. The song was originally written for a young female singer with a high voice range (soprano). As far as I'm concerned, Meav performed this song perfectly.

I agree that she had an airy quality to her voice for this performance, but she usually has a very full sound. I think she went for the airy sounds to give and "dream" quality to the song. Same principal as using echo or other voice enhancements. I think it's appropriate for the song...

It's true that enya didn't write this song, but celtic women only did two of enya's songs & enya did write those songs & perform them first. I suppose people just interpret this song as enya's because she's more recognizable than an opera. Celtic Women do covers of other songs by other artists. Anyway, I think Meav sings this beautifully, and is a good version of this song.
